RE: Respiratory illness effecting 🐕
As many of us have seen on recent news, we are following the recent surge in cases related to an unidentified respiratory disease affecting our pet community. While the exact cause is yet to be determined—whether viral or bacterial—it has come to our attention that areas with high pet density, such as dog parks, groomers, and boarding facilities, seem to be particularly affected. Most of the cases have been seen on the west coast with a few cases in the northeast coast. To our knowledge, there has not been a case yet identified in NY state.
Symptoms of this respiratory ailment include coughing, sneezing, malaise, nasal and/or eye discharge, and decreased appetite. The severity of these symptoms can vary.
While it might be premature to sound the alarm, we recommend to use caution and to limit high pet density activities at this time. In addition, with the holiday season’s traveling coming upon us, to be careful with other dogs from other areas. We also advise pet owners to ensure that their furry companions are up to date on their respiratory vaccines as a preventive measure against other potential infections. Feel free to contact us to determine your pet’s vaccination status.
It is our hope that, like previous respiratory outbreaks, this situation will resolve without major repercussions. The information we have is right now limited and evolving and we will keep you apprised as new information becomes available.
