With regret, I Inform you of passing of Angelina Orrico.

(Family written obituary) Angelina was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the age of 94 — just one month shy of her 95th birthday. Angelina passed peacefully at home in Pelham Bay, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on November 8, 1930, in the Bronx to Michele and Brunetta Biase, Angelina lived her entire life in the Pelham Bay neighborhood, where she built a beautiful life rooted in family, faith, and community. She married the love of her life and the boy next door, Nathan Orrico, with whom she shared a lifetime of devotion and joy. Together, they raised five sons in the same house where Nathan was born and Angelina ultimately passed.

Angelina was a woman of remarkable strength, resilience, and heart. She lived her life for her family, instilling in her children the values of hard work, faith, respect, and love. She was the anchor and the heart of the Orrico family — a guiding force whose wisdom and warmth touched all who knew her.

She is survived by her five sons: Donald, Patrick, Vincent, William, and Thomas; and her beloved daughters-in-law, Angela, Jirina, and Tammy, who she loved like her own daughters.

She was a proud and devoted grandmother to eight grandchildren: Donald (Mary), Lauren (Brett), Natalie (Ryan), Patrick, Michael, Alexa (Ewan), Briana (fiancé Robert), and Jenna. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy, and her faithful companion, her dog Yogi, who rarely left her side.

Angelina’s greatest joy was being surrounded by family — during holidays, vacations, or simple evenings at home. Her legacy of love, resilience, generosity, and faith will live on through the many lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Nathan, her brother Patrick, and her parents Michele and Brunetta.

A funeral service will be held to honor and celebrate Angelina’s life at Church of Immaculate Heart of Mary located at 8 Carman Road, Scarsdale NY 10583 on Wednesday October 15th at 10:30 AM, followed by interment at Mount Hope Cemetery located at 50 Jackson Avenue, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY 10706.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Calvary Fund of Calvary or Jeanne Jugan.

Angelina Orrico will be remembered always for her strength, her faith, her quick wit, her warmth, and her boundless love. She lived life her way — with heart, purpose, and grace — and leaves behind a legacy that will endure for generations to come.

My deepest condolences to the family. May Angelina Rest in Peace.

With regret, I inform you of the passing of Fred Melillo.

(Family written obituary) Fred Melillo, originally from Harlem, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in the Bronx on September 23, 2025. A beloved brother and caretaker of his late sister Lucille “Dolly” Bianchi, Fred is survived by his brother John; his niece and nephew, Dawn and John; his great-nephew, Danny Melillo; his great-niece and goddaughter, Tiffany Melillo-Singh; and his fifty-three-year companion, Joyce DiMichele, along with her sons, Joseph and Nicholas.

He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Rose Melillo, and his siblings Louie, Anthony, Dominick, Danny, Frank, and Carmella Melillo.

Fred was a fixture in his neighborhood bakeries and delis. His famous phrases—“Yoo-hoo” and “Naa-naa”—along with his warm smile and kind nature, greeted everyone who crossed his path. His positive demeanor, sincere gratitude, extroverted spirit, and generous heart left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His humor was as endless as his happiness.

Freddy’s impact was as easy to feel as it was to hear, often marked by him saying, “Hit me man,” before extending his hand for a fist bump.

Simply by being in it, Freddy made the world a better place—and his loss is one we all share.

Born in 1938, he spent his youth on Pleasant Avenue in Harlem before settling in the Bronx for the remainder of his life. He served as a custodian at Benjamin Franklin High School in Harlem for over 25 years—a fitting career for someone who was always cleaning up messes while maintaining a childlike wonder and sense of humor.

He unabashedly loved God and his family, often sharing the power he received from God with family members and friends. He also loved vacationing in Aruba, going to the pool, scalding hot food and big six foot Italian heroes.

The family will receive Freddy’s friends and loved ones at Schuyler Hill Funeral Home, 3535 East Tremont Avenue, Bronx, NY 10465, on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 1027 Rhinelander Avenue, Bronx, NY 10461, on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Following the Mass, he will be laid to rest in St. Raymond’s Cemetery, 2600 Lafayette Avenue, Bronx, NY 10465.

My deepest condolences to the family. May Fred Rest in Peace.

With regret, I inform you of the untimely passing of Kathleen O'Connor.

(Family written obituary) In remembrance of Kathleen Theresa O’Connor

Kathleen Theresa O’Connor died on August 10, 2025, from complications due to cancer. She was 50 years old.

Kathleen was born in the Bronx, NY, where she lived her entire life. Both of her parents, Joseph O’Connor and Marianne Fannelli O’Connor, predeceased her. She was the youngest of Joe and Marianne’s girls: Ann O’Connor and Donna O’Connor.

Kathleen was Aunt to AJ Smalls and Kayla Smalls.

Kathleen (“don’t call me Kathy”) was born with an intellectual disability, epilepsy, and cerebral palsy. Despite these conditions, she attended school for children with special needs until she was 21 years old. After she graduated, she was cared for by her mother at home. After her mom died, Kathleen took up residence at The Institute for Community Living group home. She lived there for nearly ten years until she entered hospice at Calvary Hospital.

Although Kathleen had an intellectual disability, she remained engaged. She attended day programs for people with special needs. She bowled. She liked watching TV, listening to music, getting her nails done, and having her hair dyed different colors. She went on outings with the group home, including trips to the movies, the hair salon, City Island, and overnight stays at the Poconos. She and her housemate, Kent, were inseparable. She loved going out for lunch and car rides with her family. She really enjoyed opening birthday and Christmas presents. Christmas will never be the same without her.

Kathleen lived her life in the present moment. She had no worries about money, global warming, the state of the country. She was completely un-self-conscious. She enthusiastically greeted everyone she came in contact with as a friend. She was the life of the party wherever she went. Throughout her years, friends, program staff, home attendants, the staff at ICL, and the techs and nurses at Calvary all sang her praises.

To say Kathleen will be sorely missed by her family and friends is an understatement. Considering her life-long health issues, we are grateful to have had her in our lives for as long as we did.

A memorial will be held for Kathleen and her dad, Joe O’Connor (who died four weeks before she did), on August 27, 2025, from 9-11am at Schuyler Hill Funeral Home. It will be followed by a Mass at St Theresa of the Infant Jesus Church and the interment of her ashes at St Raymond Cemetery.

If you would like to honor Kathleen, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Institute for Community Living at iclinc.org (the Intellectual and Developmental Disability Programming campaign). This organization took very good care of her for the last decade of her life.

My condolences to the family. May Kathleen Rest in Peace.

With much surprise, sorrow and regret, I inform you of the passing of Vinny Cavallo. Vinny was a respected and beloved attorney in this community for 40+ years.

(Family written obituary) Vincent A. Cavallo was and continues to be a shining light. His uplifting spirit and ability to make one feel like an old friend brought warmth and security to all who were fortunate enough to know him. He embodied unconditional love and lived his life for others. He saw beauty in all living things and shared his light with all he touched. He took his final breaths in the arms of his children, peacefully, punctually, as the sun rose on August 14, 2025 at the age of 74.

Vincent “Vinny” Anthony Cavallo was born in The Bronx, NY on June 2, 1951, to loving parents Orlando “Ray” Cavallo and Madeline DiNardi. With older siblings Joyce and Orlando “Tony”, he grew up surrounded by a large, loving family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and pets. He cherished the memories of his formative years. At 17 years old, Vinny met the love of his life, Helen Gaetano. They had their first date on June 13, 1969, and married on October 21, 1973.

Ever an entrepreneur and family man, Vinny worked in partnership with his brother Tony in their travel and real estate agencies. Vinny and Helen started their family while he attended St. John’s University School of Law at night, graduating with honors in 1973. After working all day and attending law school at night, he returned home to his wife and baby daughters to tuck them in. He was admitted to the Bar in 1984 and began his practice of law in The Bronx. He founded Cavallo & Cavallo with Tony in 1989. He proudly served The Bronx community in the purchase and sale of real estate for over 40 years. He was a pillar of his community and of his family.

Vinny loved building and driving fast cars, working on and caring for his (and his children’s) homes and gardens, finding and inventing new gadgets, joking and humor of all kinds, and connecting with people. He loved animals, especially dogs. Bodybuilding as a youth, running as an adult – including completing a marathon with his daughter, Erica – he strongly valued physical fitness and health. More than anything, Vinny loved being with and providing for his family and friends. Whether by a kind word, a joke, a look from across the room, or an embrace in a time of need, you were touched by his presence.

Throughout a lifetime of reflection, curiosity, hard work, and an authentic engagement with the experiences of life, he developed a magnetic and inspiring personal philosophy of how to live and how to love, grounded in acceptance and fairness.

He is survived by the love of his life, Helen, to whom he was married for almost 52 years, his children Jessica, Erica, and Vincent, his children by marriage Michael and Jai-Lee, his grandchildren Dante, Andrew Ray, William Vincent, and Grace, his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his countless friends.

To encapsulate a man like Vinny is impossible but we have done our best. Please join us in honoring his life. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to www.amyloidosis.org

The funeral arrangements are as follows: the Wake will be held on Wednesday (8/20) from 3-7pm at Sisto Funeral Home; and the Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday (8/21) at 10:30am at St. Benedict's Church.

My very deepest condolences to the Cavallo family. May Vinny Rest in Peace.
