It’s World Hearing Day! 👂

Did you know that?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), unaddressed hearing loss is the third largest cause of years lived with disability globally, with nearly 450 million people in need of rehabilitation services for their disabling hearing loss.

With this year’s theme, “To hear for life, listen with care,” the WHO calls upon governments, industry partners, and civil society to “raise awareness for and implement evidence-based standards that promote safe listening.”

World Hearing Day (WHD) raises awareness of hearing loss, deafness, and ear diseases. It emphasizes the importance of hearing health and preserving our hearing.

It also encourages families and children to practice safe listening strategies educating younger populations about the risks of noise-induced hearing loss and the steps they can take to prevent further damage.

WHD is a reminder to individuals to take action and incorporate medical services such as hearing and balance care and rehabilitation into national health plans. Stay tuned as the national SAA public outreach committee celebrates WHD with a week of posts related to hearing health!
