I always try and do my best to do new things for the holidays to make the things exciting, but to also incorporate some traditions to always have something personal with the holidays I can pass on to others. This year, I had a way to incorporate both:
Does anyone else remember making those pretzels topped with a Hershey kiss which is slightly melted to top it with an M&M? If not, swipe left to see
I grew up making these. I remember my Mom always baking A LOT and being part of that chaos. These were particularly crazy as you had to quickly get all the M&Ms on the kisses before they cooled. So itd be like an assembly line with my Mom, siblings, and I.
I recently tried making pretzels and had quite a bit of leftover Lye and a Christmas baking opportunity. So I thought what if I made this new and replaced the store bought hard pretzel with a fresh one? So I tried it.
Im did a test batch (two swipes), as I did this based on my memory of this process, which I had down…but as the younger middle child, I never handled the oven. I thought it’d be like >375 F, but apparently you can cook and burn Hershey kisses (I thought it’d melt…). I googled and found out you just have it in a 175 F for a minute and that melts it.
Also…these things don’t have a name from my googling….it’s just like “pretzel chocolate M&M” or “Pretzel Hershey kiss M&M”…
So the second batch came out as intended!
I think it was what I intended, maybe some adjustments in the future, but found it very meaningful to try. I don’t know why I typed this all out 😅, maybe just to express how it’s the little things that make this season fun for me as most big plans for holidays stress me out. Hopefully if ya read all this you feel inspired. If anything you can crack some jokes about this post, “Get a load of this guy getting sentimental over a derpy pretzel!”…I think it needs adjustments, maybe a chocolate drizzle. What do you think member of club who read this post?
