π©Ί Case Spotlight: Removing a Fibrous Papule of the Nose with Hyfrecation and Curettage
Fibrous papules are benign, skin-colored to slightly reddish dome-shaped bumps, most commonly found on the nose. These harmless lesions are often mistaken for basal cell carcinomas due to their appearance, but histologically, they are composed of fibroblasts and collagen within the dermis and do not require treatment unless for cosmetic reasons.
π Todayβs Case:
A patient presented with a solitary, firm, flesh-colored papule on the nasal bridge typical of a fibrous papule. Though asymptomatic, the patient requested removal for cosmetic reasons.
π οΈ Treatment Approach:
We used a combination of hyfrecation and curettage:
β’ Hyfrecator (a type of electrosurgical device) was used to precisely coagulate the lesion with minimal thermal damage to surrounding tissue.
β’ Curettage followed to gently scrape and remove the lesion from the dermis.
β‘ This method offers excellent cosmetic results with minimal risk of scarring or recurrence when performed correctly.
πΈ Post-procedure, the site was clean with minimal bleeding, and the patient tolerated it well with only local anesthesia. Aftercare instructions were provided, including gentle cleansing and topical antibiotic use.
β
Outcome: The lesion was successfully removed in a single session, and the area is healing nicely with excellent cosmetic results expected.
