If you’re a medical student and interested in this space, this question came up at the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine conference: “What advice would you give someone just starting out?”
My answer: stay curious.
You’re going to get a strong foundation in traditional medicine — and that’s essential. But it’s also important to keep asking questions about how the body changes over time and how that impacts long-term health.
As you go through your training:
• Stay open to new and evolving areas of medicine
• Ask questions — even when topics aren’t fully covered
• Keep learning beyond the standard curriculum
• Think about how you can support patients earlier, not just when disease develops
There’s so much more to learn in this field, and by the time you finish your training, the tools and insights available will be even more advanced.
