No one really prepares you for the loneliness that can show up in midlife.
You may have expected life to feel more settled by now.
Instead, you might find yourself asking:
Who am I now?
Children grow up.
Roles change.
Relationships shift.
Work evolves.
Your body asks for something different.
And what looks like loneliness on the surface… may be something deeper.
Grief.
Uncertainty.
Identity change.
The discomfort of becoming someone new.
For me, it showed up when the house grew quieter.
I realized how much of my life had been devoted to nurturing others — and how unfamiliar it felt to be alone with myself.
There was sadness. Restlessness. Fatigue.
And a tendency to stay busy enough not to notice.
But beneath it all, there was also an invitation.
If this is where you are right now, you are not alone.
This chapter may not be falling apart.
It may be asking you to begin again.
