Acupuncture is a practice that goes back thousands of years, proven by practitioners to be beneficial for a long list of conditions and illnesses. Acupuncture in NYC is becoming one of the most accepted forms of Chinese treatment by Western medicine and is gaining in popularity. Dr. Steven Schram, an acupuncturist in nyc, is one of the leading experts in this field in the Northeast, having trained and gained clinical experience in California, a state with some of the most stringent requirements for licensing. As an acupuncturist in NYC, Dr. Steven Schram has successfully treated hundreds of patients suffering from conditions such as joint pain, arthritis, sciatica, back, shoulder or neck pain, migraines–even allergies. He can also treat many stress and diet related issues such as constipation, insomnia, and food and cigarette addictions. Fertility Acupuncturist Acupuncture New York NY Many of the methods and treatments in TCM are done in conjunction with acupuncture therapy for maximum benefit. The goal for all treatments in TCM, especially acupuncture treatment is maintaining health and wellness by establishing the perfect flow of qi, otherwise known as “life force” or “life-energy,” throughout the body. According to Chinese medicine, there is a complex system of meridians, a pathway through which a person’s qi flows. Along this meridian there are approximately 200 “points,” areas along the meridian that can become blocked, or “cold” which stops the qi from flowing. These kinds of blockages have been proven to lead to all sorts of illnesses, disease, toxin build-up and other physical and emotional problems. Acupuncture, along with practices such as Tui Na, Qigong, Cupping, Moxibustion and Gua Sha are very specialized treatments that require in-depth training. While most, if not all states require acupuncturists to pass an National Accreditation Exam to receive a license, states vary in terms of the number of years of education required and the number of clinical hours required. California, for instance requires a full four years of education and clinical hours in all these practices, totaling 2300 hours of education. Back Pain Specialist New York NY Acupuncture is the perfect treatment if you have an unresolved health issue which has gone on for too long. The practice is quickly gaining recognition as a treatment option that works for many, many troubling issues and conditions. However, the use of this practice for healing is too limiting. Chinese medicine has long held the correct view that the primary function of this therapy is to prevent illness and conditions before they become serious problem. This is a shift in thinking that many Americans need to make. Acupuncture in New York has been highly successful in treating many conditions which tend to be psychological AND physical, such as helping with weight loss, quitting smoking and serious pre-menstrual conditions. Low Back Pain Stretching https://drstevenschram.com/low-back-pain-stretching/
Stretches for Low Back Pain - Call Dr. Steven Schram (646) 736-7719

Often, I see a lot of patients with complaints of back pain or back stiffness. A lot of people are confused about how to stretch their backs. It's simple. When I ask people to bend forward, they do so with a straight leg. Because the way the fascia of the body works, if you try to do that, you're not going to stretch your back, you're going to stretch your legs. Let me show you what I'm talking about. When you bend forward, bend your knees round your back, come down.

Now, I'm stretching my back out. I'm touching my toes, but I've got my knees bent. Now, I can slowly straighten my legs, and I can also stand on my fingers and pull and stretch my back. Breathe in, breathe out, and relax. Having your knees straight is not essential, what is necessary is that you stay in this position for about a minute or two because fascia takes time to relax. Muscles can stretch easier, but fascia takes longer.

You stay in this position a little bit longer. Breathing in, breathing out, and you want to keep your belly and your chest onto your thighs. When you're stretching your back, start with your bent knees, come forward, put your fingers underneath your toes if you can, pull down a little bit, and stretch. Hopefully, that'll give you a little bit more relaxation and allow your back to relax and take away some of that stiffness and discomfort.

Tension in the thighs, this part of your body is often associated with back pain because it pulls us forward, and there's a counter tension in the back.

Dr. Steven Schram is a chiropractor and acupuncturist in New York, NY. In this video, Dr. Schram demonstrates how stretching the thighs can alleviate low back pain.

Tension in the thighs, this part of your body is often associated with back pain because it pulls us forward, and there's a counter tension in the back. This is not where most people have a complaint about a problem, but it's often part of its solution. I'm going to show you a couple of very simple thigh stretches that you can try at home. Maybe you'll find some relief to both your tension in your leg and tension in your back.

The first one is sitting on your heels. I know a lot of people can't get to sit on their heels. If you can't, put a towel or a pillow underneath. If you can sit on your heels, do so, and then stretch back and lift your pelvis.

A variation on that is to spread your feet wide. Sit in between your feet. A trick is to move your calf muscle out of the way and then lean back again, again lifting your pelvis. Breathe in and breathe out. Come down, come forward.

A variation on that, which is maybe even simpler for some folks, is you lie on one side. I'm going to stretch my top leg. I'm going to grab my ankle, and I'm just going to pull it back, and as I do that, I'm moving my pelvis forward. I can straighten my bottom leg, but the key is to stretch it. Breathe in and breathe out. Stretch back. Arch back. Breathe in and breathe out and then come back to neutral.

Again, whatever you do on one side, make sure you do on the other. Hope to see you in my office soon.

There is no "magic pill" fertility treatment. For those suffering from infertility, however, there are some options to consider. More and more Westerners are looking to Chinese Medicine, especially acupuncture, to improve their chances of conceiving. As a fertility treatment, acupuncture can accomplish several things. First, it can be used to improve blood circulation to the ovaries, for healthier eggs. Next, it can increase the blood flow to the ovaries, which has the obvious benefit of helping to develop a strong lining, which holds the eggs for a healthy, full-term pregnancy.

Infertility can often cause one to experience a great deal of stress, which can inhibit the ability to conceive. In Chinese medicine, it is extremely important to achieve balance, physically and mentally. Acupuncture treatments are also known to help reduce stress in the body and help achieve a sense of balance. For anyone new to acupuncture, the treatment is simple. It involves the insertion of ultra-thin, sterilized needles into very specific points, known as acupuncture points. These points are along a system of pathways known as meridians, which are all interconnected. These pathways are the channels along which a person's Qi ("chee") flows. Qi is known in Chinese medicine as a person's life force, or life energy.

Stress, inactivity, toxins, and many other conditions or illnesses can block the flow of Qi as it travels throughout the body. Experienced acupuncturists can examine and intuit where the flow is blocked and insert the needles into those areas. This improves blood flow to the area, helps the tissue and muscles relax and removes the blockages and helps regulate the organs and the overall system. In some instances, such as conditions related to the thyroid, if a particular system is not regulated properly, in can affect hormonal levels and directly impact fertility.

Acupuncture is usually considered a process-oriented treatment, especially when used as a fertility treatment. Regular treatments over several months are found to be more effective than a single treatment. Combined with other forms of Chinese medicine, such as herbal medicines, acupuncture can be an extremely effective way to improve your chances of conceiving. While not proven to treat serious conditions such as endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease, acupuncture can enhance issues that relate to these conditions, by improving ovarian function and follicular function for a healthy pregnancy.

Regular acupuncture treatments several months prior to and following IVF treatments has been shown to significantly improve the effectiveness of the IVF process. A 2002 study conducted in Germany, 160 women received IVF treatments. Roughly half received acupuncture as well. Of the women who received the acupuncture, forty percent got pregnant. In the group that did not receive acupuncture, twenty-six percent of the women conceived.

Regulating the menstrual cycle is of paramount importance when considering fertility treatment. This is an area in which acupuncture can be most helpful. By treating the acupuncture points along the meridians that serve the female reproductive organs, irregular ovulation and menstruation cycles can be made to be more regular, which also improves one's ability to conceive. As a fertility treatment, especially when used in conjunction with other methods, acupuncture might well put you on the fast track to a healthy pregnancy.

What are the credentials and training required to provide acupuncture in New York City?

An acupuncturist is a corresponding health practitioner who takes a holistic approach to the preservation of health as well as the administration of diseases. The aim and focus of the acupuncturist are to improve the overall well-being of people, relieve pain, and improve physical, mental and emotional health through stimulation of specific points on the body. To suit an acupuncturist, the British Acupuncture Council believes that one have to complete a degree or equivalent training of around three years involving 3600 hours of study. The course entails diagnostic techniques, treatment methods, first aid, anatomy and physiology, disease and conditions as well as business and administration. To add to that, completing an accredited course enable the acupuncturist to be eligible automatically. Moreover, the qualified acupuncturists join the British Acupuncture Council register, which allows them to display the Accredited Voluntary Register quality mark to show whether their practice meets robust professional standards. This level has been recommended for many years by the World Health Organization. The British Acupuncture Accreditation Board has developed a system over twenty years ago to accredit courses so that automatic eligibility is offered to the graduates. A competent acupuncturist ought to keep up to date with developments in the profession through continued professional development. It is evident that continued professional development is a requirement to be a member of the British Acupuncture Council. Apparently, the career progression for an acupuncturist as well as the success depends very much on professional along with business ability.

Skills are crucial aspect towards the acupuncturist, given the fact that the work requires maturity and sensitivity to deal with the difficult emotional issues that can arise during treatment. Acupuncturist needs to show good communication as well as interpersonal skills in order to explain treatment processes along with establishing a positive relationship with clients. In order for the acupuncturist to set up as well as run a successful business, he/she must have effective organizational, marketing and financial skills, a good state of emotional and physical state, ability to extrapolate the main issues from a host of others just to name but a few. As a point of fact, the acupuncturist gain experience and reputation when the number of the clients tends to increase given the fact that personal interests often establish career direction. It is evident that acupuncture is a regulated health profession and it has a scope of practice. In most instances, Acupuncturists work from a clinical setting often within an alternative medicine practice among other disciplines such as massage, reflexology as well as aromatherapy. Training in more than one discipline is essential to the acupuncturists given that it enables them to become qualified in herbal prescriptions thus increasing the number conditions as well as the number of patients that a practitioner can treat. Additionally, experienced acupuncturists can move into training as well as managerial roles so that they can complement their income.

How long is an acupuncture treatment?

Acupuncture treatments typically last from 45 minutes to 1 hour. First-time patients should allow an hour and a half for sufficient time to complete their initial consultation. If you have not completed your paperwork in advance we ask that you please arrive at least 15 minutes early to complete the intake form and to foster a relaxing experience.

One of the nicest parts of your experience at our Acupuncture Connections is that we allow you to determine the length of your treatment. Most people relax with their needles for 30-60 minutes, but you may stay as long as you like as long as we have room for you. We will check in on you periodically, leaving you alone if you are relaxed or sleeping, and checking to see if you are ready to have your needles removed when eye contact is made or if you call upon your practitioner.
