These basic pillars of self-care can seem overly simplified, but we cannot overstate their importance. Prioritizing these areas will do more for your well-being than any product can. Because of the booming wellness industry, it's easy to feel like "well-being" is out of reach unless we have the latest supplements, workout regimens, diets, and tech. We think it's an important reminder that these areas of self-care need the utmost priority, as they can be difficult to manage for anyone. Remember that consistency is more important in the long run than intensity, because small efforts over time accumulate into invaluable habits.

Latching on to and assigning meaning to our thoughts is a surefire way to feel out of control. Not letting our thoughts control us is a sign of emotional maturity, but also a sign that we recognize our thoughts as a small part of an overall equation, not the pilot of the ship. The sooner we can realize that connection to a thought or feeling does not mean we are attached to it, the sooner we can let go and step back. Follow us for more therapy content 💙

Here are nine detrimental things to stop doing to improve your mental health. Getting rid of habits that affect your mental health negatively should be a priority over adopting new, healthy habits. This is because our maladaptive habits can help us point to a root cause. For example, if we always say yes, never ask for help, and have generally low awareness of our feelings, it may be very likely that we outsource our self-worth to other people's opinions. No matter how many 'new' behaviors we try to adapt, nothing will work if we don't address this root cause. Follow us for more mental health resources!

👋 We're here to debunk common mental health myths! Mental health issues are still highly stigmatized despite being one of the most common issues Americans face. We often associate mental illness with unfulfilled personal responsibility, blaming the person experiencing mental health issues as the sole reason for their condition. This is candidly untrue, as mental health issues can stem from a multitude of factors beyond our control. Environment, upbringing, physiology, genetics, medications, physical ailments, and hormones are just some of the factors that can contribute to the development of mental health issues. The more we reduce this stigma, the more accessible mental health language and resources are to those who may need it. Follow us for more mental health resources!

In this day and age, awareness is a superpower. We live in a world designed to fragment our attention, catch us off guard, and make us feel like we can't catch a break—resulting in a culture fueled by convenience and instant gratification. Not only is this highly profitable for big corporations, but it damages our peace in the present moment. Being present is a skill that can be practiced, the importance of which doesn't come until you realize that at any given moment, the present is all we have.
What are some ways you practice awareness and mindfulness throughout the day?

Burnout often creeps up on us when we least expect it. It's the result of prolonged stress, relentless workloads, and the pressure to constantly be 'on.' When we push ourselves too hard without adequate breaks, neglect our self-care, and fail to set boundaries, burnout becomes inevitable. Start addressing burnout by taking regular breaks to clear your mind, and prioritize activities that nourish your soul, like exercise or hobbies. Don’t hesitate to talk to friends, family, or a professional about what you’re experiencing. Setting boundaries and learning to say no is crucial to protect your energy. Sometimes, a simple change in routine can make a huge difference. Reflect on your goals and priorities, and make necessary adjustments to prevent burnout in the future. Remember, taking care of yourself is essential—you’ve got this! 💖

It is human nature to resist change. You’ve established a pattern of thinking and behaving that is comfortable, so being confronted with change automatically creates stress and resistance. But we have to leave our comfort zone if we want to grow.

In my work with clients, I have seen incredible transformation and it all started with the idea that something had to change. The mistake that so many make is trying to change everything at once and then burning out and giving up all together. The first step is doing the inner work to determine where is the greatest source of resistance coming from.

Possible answers are: fear, limiting beliefs, mindset. Take a minute today and think of one small thing you want to change. Feel free to share in the comments.

Forgiveness can be one of the hardest things to do, especially toward a person who deeply hurt you. In the end, forgiveness is much more about you and your freedom than it is about the other person, as you deserve to walk around without the hurt and anger. These 10 steps to forgiveness are an excellent resource for when you want to start working towards peace, whether it be forgiving yourself or another person.

Our coping mechanisms are integral to our success. Maladaptive coping mechanisms offer immediate relief of anxiety in the form of distraction or dopamine but don't do anything to address the root of the problem, thus harming us more.
To develop adaptive coping mechanisms, it is important to examine what our anxiety triggers are and what our bodies are trying to communicate to us with our subconscious urges. Creating habits like movement, journaling, calling a friend, etc. that allow the anxiety to move THROUGH us instead of being stifled and shut down is the key to long-term anxiety management.

"If I get this job, this relationship, this xyz, then I'll be truly happy." Is common rhetoric. This way of thinking puts happiness up on a shelf, wrapped in red tape and conditions. In Shawn Achor's book The Happiness Advantage, he emphasizes how contentment and happiness are not destinations, but rather something in our disposition, carried with us no matter the circumstance.
