If you tend to get nosebleeds in cold, dry weather, this post is for you.

Don't lean back to try to stop it! That could cause you to vomit or choke on blood. Instead, you should:

- Sit slightly forward while pinching your nostrils together.
- Keep them pinched shut for 10 to 15 minutes.
- If the nosebleed has not stopped, call 911.

Officer Brooke Lombardo has been donating blood since she was 18! 💪
Prevent a winter blood shortage! The Red Cross blood supply is under pressure after a busy holiday season when winter weather & packed schedules made it even tougher to ensure hospitals have critically needed blood products. Don't wait — donate: https://rcblood.org/appt

Military mom Mandie Mercier admired her son’s service so much that she decided to give back to her country in her own way. Just two months after he joined the U.S. Army, Mandie became a Red Cross volunteer.

Her son, Marius, serves as a combat medic. Through the Red Cross, Mandie discovered resources available to military families, like initiating emergency communications if something happens back home.

After experiencing firsthand the support offered to service members and their loved ones, Mandie decided to pay it forward. Today, she’s a dedicated Service to the Armed Forces caseworker with the American Red Cross of Colorado.

“The Red Cross gives as much back to me as I contribute," Mandie said. "I’ve made many friends of other Red Cross volunteers and I feel such an affinity with the military families I help."

Mandie is now training to expand her skills to support Restoring Family Links, an International Services program that helps reconnect people separated from loved ones due to international disasters or conflict.

Since joining two years ago, Mandie has logged more than 700 volunteer hours. We’re so proud of all she’s accomplished and grateful for her unwavering support of military members and their families. ❤️
