American Red Cross in Greater New York The official page for the American Red Cross Greater New York Region. Emergencies call 1-877-REDCROSS Military Academy at West Point; and in Greenwich, Conn.

Serves more than 12 million people in New York City; on Long Island; in Rockland and Westchester counties; at the U.S. We respond to approximately seven emergencies and disasters a day across the region—home fires, floods, building collapses—and more, providing shelter, food, clothing and emotional support at no cost to those in need. We also collect blood, teach lifesaving skills, and support military members, veterans and their families.

Today is World Humanitarian Day, an international day dedicated to recognize humanitarian personnel.

Coincidently, we completed the installation of our collection of vests from international Red Cross societies at our NYC office today to remind us we are part of a global movement dedicated to upholding the fundamental principles of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality.

Marty and Nick from our Metro New York North Chapter had a great time at the Monsey Fire District Safety Day event alongside Assemblyman Aron Wieder and his staff.

They shared important fire safety information and provided residents the opportunity to schedule a free appointment to have smoke alarms installed at their homes.

The Sound the Alarm. Save a Life. program is available to all residents of our Metro New York North Chapter (Rockland and Westchester counties, and Greenwich, Conn.)

Visit www.soundthealarm.org/mnyn to learn more and sign up for a free fire safety visit.

The BBC published a retrospective on how the 2003 Northeast Blackout impacted New Yorkers and included several quotes from our 2021 "Disasters Untold" podcast episode about the memorable disaster.

On 14 August 2003, 22 years ago this week, the electricity cut out for more than 50 million people in the US and Canada. The BBC was in New York City when the lights went out.

What to do when a friendly competition results in a four-way tie? Celebrate everyone of course! 🎖️🎖️🎖️🎖️

During the Second Annual Battle of the Clubs in Greenwich, 64 blood donors - including 10 new donors - rolled up their sleeves to help save lives.

Thanks to Belle Haven Club, Burning Tree Country Club, Indian Harbor Yacht Club, Innis Arden Golf Club, Milbrook Club, Riverside Yacht Club, the Field Club of Greenwich, Greenwich Boat and Yacht Club, Tamarack Country Club, and Greenwich Country Club for their support to recruit donors and spread the word about the importance of blood donations.

And congratulations to Milbrook, Riverside, Belle Haven and Burning Tree for taking home the collective honor of Blood Drive Champion! 🏆🏆🏆🏆
