American Red Cross in Greater New York

American Red Cross in Greater New York The official page for the American Red Cross Greater New York Region. Emergencies call 1-877-REDCROSS Military Academy at West Point; and in Greenwich, Conn.

Serves more than 12 million people in New York City; on Long Island; in Rockland and Westchester counties; at the U.S. We respond to approximately seven emergencies and disasters a day across the region—home fires, floods, building collapses—and more, providing shelter, food, clothing and emotional support at no cost to those in need. We also collect blood, teach lifesaving skills, and support military members, veterans and their families.

Our team was excited to be in the Judge’s Chamber during game 3 of the American League Division Series. ⚾️

This group of dedicated Disaster Cycle Services team members include many responders who support New Yorkers after local disasters, including after the recent building collapse in the Bronx. ⛑️

Our thanks to the Yankees for their partnership and support of our work to deliver hope and help to communities before, during and after emergencies big and small.

Meet Our Military Hero: Mel Cohen ⛑️✨

Mel Cohen, a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired Suffolk County police officer, has dedicated his life to serving others in honor of his brother Gerald, who died in Vietnam. He supports veterans across New York, especially those in prison and Gold Star families. Mel is active in many organizations, including Vietnam Veterans of America and Wreaths Across America. His dedication continues to inspire and strengthen the community.

We’re proud to honor Mel at the 2025 Long Island Heroes Celebration for his lifelong service and unwavering dedication.
