Thrilled to again have spoken before representatives from the FDA about day-to-day life as a family affected by low vision. This time it was via the Duke-Robert J. Margolis, MD, Institute for Health Policy. (Don't worry, there were other Carolina alumni there, Go Heels!)

It was an honor and a pleasure to represent my family, BCM Families Foundation, and all those affected by inherited retinal diseases before this group of stakeholders from the FDA, academia, biotech, and patient advocacy. Especially in these wild times with the National Guard presence in DC and public health under attack, today was a great reminder of what can be accomplished when everyone comes to the table with a singular focus.

Checking expiration dates before things expire is such a good idea. I tell patients to go through their medicine cabinet every 6 months, when they check their smoke alarms. Clearly this is a case of the doctor not following her own advice...

Inadequate sleep is the norm amongst adolescents. Sleep is so important for adolescents; their bodies and minds are growing exponentially during these years, and those processes happen during sleep. Teaching good sleep habits is a crucial part of how I deliver exceptional primary care - from my newborns all the way up to my 100+ year-old members.

Happy New Year! Last day we can say that? With Epiphany behind us, it's not Christmas anymore either. 🫤 Good thing the Park Ave trees are still up and lit. When they go away it's just back to being dark at 4pm 😭

Try to squeeze in a bundled up walk in the morning, even 20 minutes. This will tell your brain it's daytime, get some endorphins going, and let you soak up a little vitamin D.
