There’s NO real definition of “clean beauty”: Fact or Fiction?

Spoiler alert 🚨

FACT.

The misconceptions and ideals surrounding clean beauty - although I believe started from an honest place - have been misconstrued over time purely for it’s marketing value. For what it’s worth, here are my 2 cents👆

Living in a time where skepticism and fear mongering are at an all time high, I also want to commend and for this very relevant piece! Thank you 🙏🙌❤️

🎶 Concrete jungle where dreams are made of… was playing on repeat in my mind when I moved to this insane city almost a decade ago.

My dreams at the time were just a notion, a feeling, an idea of happiness… they were not concrete like the city I ended up in. But, the years I’ve spent pounding the pavement here, the twists and the turns along the way, all helped me to cement those dreams into my reality today (see what I did there? 🤓🏙)

I could have continued to live in my dream world. I could have chosen to accept the reality of life that I had been dealt. But instead, I chose neither. I chose to turn my dream world into my own reality.

Don’t wait for opportunity to come knocking on your door. Create your own opportunity by knocking on the doors you want open for you💥

A few golden nuggets that I am humbled and honored to share with ❤️🙏

🍗 (we need a nugget emoji)

🍗 When looking at your face, focus on the forest, not the tree. That little line around your mouth that you can only see in your magnifying mirror is usually NOT the issue. Instead, taking a giant step back puts your whole face into focus … and in the process helps simplify your goals💉

🍗 An EVEN skin tone is everything. And the fastest way to achieve a refreshed look. 💡

🍗 ARNICA. I love it. It helps speed up the healing from any trauma or bruise. It reduces inflammation and depuffs in the process. Plus, it also minimizes the appearance of redness. Win. Win. Win 🥇

Thank you for this feature 💫

Sunscreens 101

⚠️ Not all sunscreens are created equal

🤯 Did you know that SPF only indicates protection against UVB (ie: ‘burning’ rays)?

💡The term “broad spectrum” is critical when looking for a sunscreen as it indicates protection against BOTH: UVA + UVB

🤓 Traditionally sunscreens were broken down into chemical vs physical. The truth is ALL sunscreens are chemicals!

👩‍🔬 In order to achieve appropriate coverage, sunscreen makers often mix various blends of the above ingredients to get the best protection and most cosmetically desirable product

Finally: a sunscreen is only as good as you use it!

Same, same, buuut…still not perfect, just imperfectly perfectly different 💡 (now try saying that 10 times really fast!)

👩‍⚕️ 3 weeks after her first session, the Botox has kicked in and the fillers have settled. Her face is re-proportioned, the areas of deep shadowing are (still present) but softened, and her features are overall more rested.

📝 We used Botox to her forehead, eyes and neck, and a combination of hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite injections to her face. Bruising, swelling, and tenderness at injection sites are to be expected but resolve within a week.

Perfection is never the goal. Perfection in imperfection for an imperfectly perfect YOU is 💥

Can we ingest our way back to looking like a fetus 🐓 ➡️🐣 ?

The truth is that the jury is still out regarding collagen supplements.

🤓Starting in our mid-late twenties, we lose about 1% of collagen a year.

⏰For centuries, certain cultures and practices have a rooted belief that ingesting collagen helps with your skins’ moisture barrier, elasticity, and even blood flow. A few studies have been done over the years, confirming these findings and holding a lot of promise.

💡 However, the studies themselves were not ideal as a lot of them were funded by the manufacturer themselves (*cough, cough, conflict of interest, cough*).

⚠️ There’s also the question of safety that can NOT be overlooked. The collagen being used is usually derived from various animals and animal parts, such as hooves, bones, and hides which can attract contaminants such as heavy metals.

👩‍⚖️ So, until better-unbiased trials are performed and the collagen supplements are better regulated, I can’t recommend collagen powders as of yet.

SO in the meantime, make yourself a good bone broth soup that is wholesome and loaded in collagen, or just eat the damn chicken (... or plant-based foods high in glycine, proline and lysine) 🙌🐓🥜

Thank you and for including me in your stellar piece along amazing company 💥

📖che·mo·pho·bia | \ -ˈfō-bē-ə :
An irrational fear of chemicals.

Examples:
- If it’s not all natural, it can’t be trusted
- If it’s made in a lab, it can’t be “good” for you
- If it’s not non-toxic, then it has to be toxic 🙄
- If I can’t pronounce the ingredient, it should never be ON or IN my body! Right?!?
.. WRONG.

First: ANY substance making up a solid, liquid or gas, is a chemical. So that’s pretty much everything except for your hopes and dreams. Yup, From the air we breath, to fruit we eat, to even the purest water we could possibly ingest....they’re all made up of chemicals. Including even the “cleanest” beauty products in your bathroom.

Second, repeat after me: it’s the dose of any chemical that makes ANY poison. In the same way that the tiniest speck of oooohhh say ANTHRAX can be fatal, an overabundance of something as harmless as water can also be toxic.

Finally: there is NO such thing as chemical-free, clean, non-toxic, all natural, free of everything, Mother Earth, miracles and whatever other bu****it being sold to you playing off your fears duping you in the process into believing you’re making the “safer” choice ... product! Ça n’existe pas! It does not exist! ¡No existe! لا وجود لها! Wala ito!

Chemophobia has been way blown out of context within the beauty industry. The hate needs to stop. The narrative needs to CHANGE 💥 WHO’SE. WITH. ME?!?! 💃💪🛑

Nothing can prepare you for the rollercoaster that is motherhood. Not the 12 years of studying. Not the million rounds of IVF (or shots in my 🍑). None of the parenting books (and I’ve read my share). It’s a juggling act and there is no balance. Some days are a success. While others (and most) look like this 👆

As one of the countless number of women who have struggled with infertility, motherhood has been my biggest challenge. First in trying to achieve it despite miscarriage, IVF, and surgeries... to now learning how to barely survive it. It’s messy, it’s crazy, it’s challenging, it’s giving, it’s painful and yet... it’s unbelievably beautiful.

✨ No matter where you are on your journey, I firmly believe that ANY road can lead to motherhood.

Happy Mother’s Day to all ALL the mothers, stepmoms, single moms, adoptive moms, moms who have lost, moms in heaven, and moms in waiting ... out there ❤️

📝 Voilà! How to layer skincare - the correct order! Here’s a few helpful tips:

Morning Routine
☀️Skipping cleanser and just washing your face with water in the AM is helpful to avoid stripping your skin of its natural oils! Unless you have extremelyyyy oily skin I suggest trying it out.
☀️Sunscreen should always be the LAST step in your routine!

Evening Routine
🌙 Moisturizer and retinol can be alternative steps depending on your level of sensitivity. A night cream is helpful as a buffer for your retinol, if needed!
🌙 I’m not the biggest fan of face oils, but if it works for you, this should be the last step in your routine!

🧪🤯Oils are the trickiest of the bunch as not all oils are created equal! Some are better suited for dry skin (👋 marula and jojoba), whereas others can actually help oily skin (👀 at you rose hip seed). As a rule of 👍, I skip them all together in the AM as they can disrupt the sunscreens SPF coverage ⚠️ Some people like to use them before moisturizing: it all depends on the type of fatty acid present in the oil and how absorbable it is for your skin.

❤️ But, as always: if it works for you, it works for YOU 🙌 (except before the sunscreen... please STOP that madness 🛑)

“Subtle is the new dramatic” has always been my philosophy when it comes to my aesthetic work ✨

Every year I tune into the oscars, truthfully not for the movies being presented (as k-dramas have overtaken my life) but to admire the fashion and the glam 🤩 ... which for me is so much more than the perfect dress, killer makeup and hair. It’s the confidence in the faces that I look for, the confidence of knowing that underneath it all, bare faced, they can carry the look without any of the bells and whistles. 🔥

So reminder for everyone, celeb or not, this process is a slow and steady one. Life is long, and the best results happen over time 🙌

Thank you for including me among amazing peers!

Motivation Monday 💪

Genetic under-eye hollows and fine lines are nothing to be ashamed of, as everybody has them to varying degrees 👆

This young lady came to me because she was beginning to feel “down” that her appearance didn’t match her mood as she was often being asked “are you tired?” 😴

Over three sessions we slowly built up her under-eyes WHILE ALSO keeping her facial proportions intact. What you see here isn’t just a case of simply filling her hollows as Her face was also slowly lifted in order to accommodate ✍️

As you can also see, slight hollows were left behind as subtle changes can make dramatic impacts 💥

Wether it comes to cooking, the gym, cosmetic procedures or your skincare... actually especially when it comes to your skincare: The single ingredient narrative needs to stop 🛑

Most people now believe that in order to achieve any sort of efficacy they need to go for the highest concentration of an ingredient. Well, when it comes to life and your skincare: more is NOT more. 💥

From personal experience, too much of a good thing is hardly ever a good thing 🙄Throwback to the time I gluttonously bought a whole tin (mind you it wasn’t a thin tin, it was large and in charge) of caviar for myself thinking I can eat it all, only to get really sick a few hours later 🤦‍♀️ (although if I’m being honest, it’s still an experience I look back on fondly)...The same concept applies to skincare!

The truth of the matter is clinical efficacy of ingredients are not singularly dépendant on percentage concentrations. They all have a sweet spot, especially when combined with other ingredients and that isn’t always at the highest percentage level (even SPF... yes even SPF: we’ll get to that another day) True results come over time, through consistent usage, and smart pairings... not from products touting the highest percentage levels 🙄

So wether it’s caviar or your retinol, consistency over intensity is the way to go 💃
