In the US, legislators need to stop taking public opinion polls and instead listen to those who know: researchers (SAMHSA, NIDA, ATTC, etc.), people in recovery, and those who work in the field of addictions. I see public discourse being about a simple legal vs illegal approach to drugs when decriminalization is better. Decriminalization offers treatment, fights stigma, and saves lives.
