Surgical scars are amongst the most difficult problems to treat in dermatology. This patient had excisions performed by a different physician for supposed birthmarks that he didn’t like. It turned out that the resulting scars were much worse than the original birthmarks, and the patient wanted a solution. Healing After CO2 Laser Resurfacing

This patient came to me having done a CO2 laser with another dermatologist in New York City (using the same exact co2 brand laser as I use) with no results. This proving the point I always make that it’s not the brand or subtype of laser but the setting and experience of the physician using it which determines your final outcome. As you can see in this post-op picture, there is dramatic improvement in the wrinkling of lower and upper eyelids. This is what people typically look like at the 1 week point. This redness will resolve within 2-8 weeks, but at this point patients can apply makeup.

Best Solution for a Flat Tummy

Different people store fat differently when they become overweight. Men typically store fat in the abdomen and waistline, whereas women can store fat in the abdomen, waistline, hips, and thighs. This young lady wanted to have a flatter abdomen. She was told by many doctors that the only way to achieve this would be through a surgical tummy tuck, which is a major procedure that is done under general anesthesia and leaves long scars in the lower abdomen. Fixing Botched Fillers 

An unfortunate side effect of fillers, especially when done improperly by an inexperienced injector using the wrong filler, is the formation of nodules or bumps in the area. In this instance, the patient was injected with a not-so-forgiving filler called Radiesse, resulting in nodule formation on her neck. I have an innovative solution to dissolve Radiesse through multiple sessions of sodium thiosulfate injections. As you can see in the after photo, the majority of this patient’s Radiesse nodules are gone after multiple sessions of dissolving.

Rolling scars are caused by severe inflammation, which destroys the proteins in the skin that give structural integrity (namely, collagen and elastin). These are some of the toughest scars to treat. Most patients with rolling scars also have other types of scars, including boxcar scars. I like to employ a combination approach, using subcision to free up any tethered rolling scars as well as hitting them from the surface with the Fraxel laser. Usually, 1-3 sessions of subcision along with 3-5 sessions of Fraxel can cause a dramatic improvement in the appearance of rolling scars.

Lipomas are benign, fatty tumors that can be found anywhere in the skin. They’re particularly common in the forehead area, causing disfiguring protrusions.
