Trauma separates the mind from the body as a protective mechanism. Your body remembers, and sometimes, talking isn't enough to release what’s stored in your nervous system. True recovery involves re-integrating them safely.

Acupuncture is a supportive, complementary therapy. It does not replace conventional trauma treatments. Know what acupuncture can do for you:
* The primary TCM goal is to anchor and calm the Shen (spirit). Points are selected to: nourish the heart, release the stagnation of trapped emotions and fight/flight energy, and rebuild the foundational essence and sense of grounded safety.
* The gentle, precise needle sensation provides a controlled, mindful experience of the body that isn't overwhelming. It helps a person regain tolerance for physical sensation and inhabit their body without fear, countering dissociation.

Acupuncture for trauma recovery helps rewire the nervous system's trauma response by directly promoting physiological regulation, calming the spirit, and safely reintegrating the mind and body. The treatment occurs not just through the needles, but within the co-created sanctuary of the treatment room and the attuned, respectful relationship with the practitioner. It is a powerful pathway back to a sense of wholeness, safety, and presence.

Ever feel a sharp cramp in your calf when you walk that only goes away when you stop? That could be claudication.

While it’s often a sign of reduced blood flow, Traditional Chinese Medicine sees it through a different lens: “Blood Stasis” and “Qi Deficiency.” In TCM, pain that’s fixed, stabbing, and triggered by movement is a classic sign that Qi isn’t moving Blood effectively through the vessels. It’s like a traffic jam in your meridians.

Acupuncture offers a drug-free, low-risk option to improve quality of life and walking ability for patients managing this challenging condition. The goal of the treatment is symptom reduction, functional improvement, and potentially slowing progression, not reversing major arterial blockages.

In the TCM clock, 3-5 AM is the deepest yin period, just before dawn breaks and yang begins to rise. The great exchange in the Lungs happen during this time:
* Releasing: Letting go of the old air, metabolic waste, and the emotional weight of grief or attachment.
* * Receiving: Making space for and drawing in the fresh, new Qì that will fuel the coming day.
* Re-establishes the body's automatic rhythms: heartbeat, breathing, and digestive cycles.

It teaches us that dawn begins with release. We must empty to receive. By honoring this rhythm, we cultivate not just better breathing, but the capacity to let go of what weighs on our hearts, making space for new inspiration with each sunrise.

Know how your body clock talks to you. We will continue discussing each time period and organ in our upcoming posts, so stay tuned. Visit nycacuwell.com to book an appointment.

The year of the fire horse is here 🔥

This legendary year in the Chinese zodiac is the time for immense passion, adventure, and transformative power. But in TCM, we understand that every element needs balance. Fire, while brilliant and warm, can blaze out of control if not tended to.

💡 HOW TO RIDE THE WAVE AND NOT GET BURNED:
The goal isn't to douse your fire, but to harness it wisely. Nourish your Yin through rest, hydration, and meditation. Anchor your Yang through activity, passion, and drive.

This year isn’t just about external momentum. We should channel the powerful Horse energy inward so we can strengthen our Qi, smooth our Liver, and nourish our Kidneys, so we can move with purpose. NYC Acupuncture + Wellness offers timeless tools to help you harness this year’s fire and turn it into sustainable vitality.  This is your year to transform not just your goals, but your health from the inside out.

Let this year be one of vibrant action rooted in inner peace. May you move with the Horse's legendary strength, guided by the Heart's innate wisdom.

Prepping for abundance goes beyond decorations. Chinese New Year is coming, so let's cook with intention. Let's cook lotus root & pork rib soup!

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, lotus root soup is a tonic for strength, harmony, and resilience:
* Lotus Root: Clears heat, nourishes the Yin, and strengthens the spleen. Its linked holes symbolize an unbroken path to prosperity and connection.
* Red Dates: The ultimate Qi & blood tonic for energy and vitality.
* Goji Berries: Nourish the liver and kidneys, supporting bright eyes and longevity.
* Ginger: Warms the body and aids digestion.

Here are some pro-tips for cooking lotus root & pork rib soup:
* Pick firm, heavy lotus roots with smooth skin. The holes should be clean.
* Don’t overcook the lotus root! You want the delightful contrast of soft yet slightly crunchy.

Ingredients:
* 1.1lb pork ribs
* 1/2 to 3/4lbs lotus root, peeled & sliced into 1/2" rounds
* 1 large carrot, rolled cut
* 6-8 pitted red dates
* 1 tbsp goji berries
* 1 small piece of ginger, sliced
* Salt to taste
* 1 tsp black peppercorns
* 1-2 dried honey dates for sweetness (optional)

Wishing you a year of robust health, deep connections, and bowls full of blessings! 🧧

TCM uses a synergistic combination of therapies tailored to the individual's pattern to treat hypertension.

* Treating the Root Cause: Addressing patterns like stress, poor diet, and aging
* Holistic Improvement: Patients often report better sleep, less anxiety, more energy, and fewer headaches alongside improved BP numbers.
* Empowering Self-Care: Through dietary and lifestyle advice specific to their constitution.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is used as a complementary therapy, not a replacement, for conventional medical care. Do not stop prescribed blood pressure medications without explicit guidance from your cardiologist or prescribing doctor.

Book your initial consultation to find your balance. We conduct a thorough intake to determine your unique pattern and create a personalized treatment plan that works alongside your current medical care for hypertension. Lung Qi deficiency is a condition in which the Lung's functional energy is weak and insufficient. It cannot perform its jobs effectively.

The key causes include:
* Long-term stress that depletes the body's overall Qi, which eventually weakens the Lungs.
* Lung conditions like asthma, bronchitis, or long COVID overtax the Lung system.
* Habitually slouching compresses the chest and limits Lung capacity.
* In TCM, the Lungs are the seat of grief. Unresolved or chronic grief is said to "consume" Lung Qi.
* Additionally, a common cause of Lung Qi deficiency is weak Spleen Qi. Spleen is considered the mother organ of the Lung.

The goal of TCM treatment is to boost the Lung's energy and, often, to strengthen the Spleen. It is all about replenishment, strengthening, and conservation of energy through acupuncture, herbs, nourishing food, and mindful breathing.

If you recognize these symptoms, consulting with a licensed TCM practitioner can provide a personalized diagnosis and treatment plan. Ready to get the help you need? Book an appointment with us by visiting nycacuwell.com

Ever find yourself wide awake between 1-3 AM? 🌙

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Liver’s nightly window is for detoxifying your body, processing emotions, and storing blood for the day ahead. When the Liver is out of balance, it often sends signals, especially during these quiet hours.

If these signs listed feel familiar, it might be your Liver asking for support.

Your body runs on a schedule even when you’re not watching the clock ⏰

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Organ Clock maps out how your energy flows through different organ systems over a 24-hour cycle. Each time block highlights when certain functions are naturally more active, restorative, or vulnerable.

It’s not about being perfect or memorizing every organ, but about awareness. When you understand your body’s rhythm, healing becomes more intuitive and sustainable.

We’ll be breaking down each time period and organ in our upcoming posts, so stay tuned!

01/23/2026

Chronic pelvic pain can feel isolating, but healing doesn’t have to be. Instead of masking symptoms, integrative medicine seeks to address the root causes. Here’s how a few gentle yet powerful tools can help:

* Inflammation often fuels pain. An anti-inflammatory, nutrient-dense diet, along with identifying personal food triggers, can soothe the gut, calm systemic inflammation, and support hormonal balance.
* By balancing the body’s energy and blood flow, acupuncture can interrupt the pain cycle many feel stuck in.
* Mindfulness practices quiet the nervous system, lower stress hormones, and help create a safe space for healing, not just coping. Mindful movement also helps release muscular holding patterns, restore functional strength, and rebuild a peaceful connection with your body.

Treating chronic pelvic pain is about weaving these practices into a personalized plan that respects your body. You deserve care that listens, not just prescribes. Book an acupuncture appointment with us by visiting nycacuwell.com

The body is always communicating through fatigue, tension, poor sleep, irritability, or pain. These aren’t weaknesses. They’re signals asking for rest, recalibration, and care. TCM teaches that honoring rest protects your Qi, nourishes your organs, and supports long-term health, not just short-term productivity.

Acupuncture and other East Asian medicine practices support your nervous system, help your body reset, and remind it how to rest deeply, so you don’t have to wait until you’re completely depleted. Book an acupuncture appointment with us by visiting nycacuwell.com
