Incredible night at the official opening of Tempo in Kingston! Tom Krueger did such an incredible job as did the whole team of friends and colleagues. Such a beautiful outpouring of community. And the music was simply divine. I’ve been a huge fan of the Swedish group Väsen for years so it was such a wonderful treat to hear this incredible music live! The opening band, The Fretless, also playing here, was wonderful! Congratulations Tom and the whole Tempo team!!

SoundWell Center is home to SoundWell Creative Arts Therapy PLLC, offering music psychotherapy, music therapy, EMDR, and Deep Listening Sound Meditations for groups and individuals, providing relief from trauma and anxiety by recognizing our inherent healthy selves through body-mind awareness, creative inquiry, and artistic expression.
Sound Well Creative Arts Therapy is run by Katie Down, MT-BC, LCAT - a licensed creative arts therapist and active performer in the arts, working with the idea that we connect to ourselves and with each other through Creativity, Curiosity and Compassion.
Creativity is what helps us to re-frame situations and see things through a new perspective. Creativity sparks our interest, allows us to express ourselves, gives us permission.
Curiosity gives us the tools to dig deeper into underlying causes of current or past difficulties. Curiosity allows us to take risks in order to grow.
Compassion is what drives the therapeutic rapport in each session and allows clients the opportunity to examine their ability to move in new and healthy directions.
Sound Well Creative Arts Therapy emphasizes the phenomenon of a sound body and a sound mind that is always in sync with the universal flow, which is our inherent and natural state of being in balance.
As a licensed music psychotherapist, sound practitioner, and Reiki practitioner, Katie brings over 25 years experience as a professional musician, performer, and intuitive to each session which allows for a creative and improvisational approach to the therapy.
She facilitates group therapy as well including a group for survivors of sexual assault at NYU.
Katie is certified in EMDR for trauma and symptoms of PTSD and in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).
The process of psychotherapy brings together self-inquiry and ultimately self-love. In order for the heart and mind to heal, we must sometimes ask ourselves difficult questions and open ourselves up to vulnerability to gain the strength we need to live a life of happiness and well-being.
There is an Irish saying: "Contentment is wealth." To be content is to want for nothing - or to look at it from a Buddhist perspective, desire or craving is at the root of unhappiness.
Ancient Greek philosophers, modern-day thinkers, and many of our spiritual leaders for thousands of years have postulated the idea of happiness as our ultimate goal.
Although it may seem to some that "happiness" is perhaps a lofty ideal, it is the natural state that resides in all of us, and how we define happiness is, of course, up to the individual.
The thing about happiness is that it is an ephemeral being/feeling state and it is something that waxes and wanes. We can use mindfulness to acknowledge our feeling states and recognize these states as something we are feeling in the moment without defining who we are.
Through mindfulness, we can accept our patterns and make conscious decisions to create new pathways towards optimal health.
