While teaching breech birth at Yale I remembered a few things myself. Midwifery school is hard. Loud birthing sounds should be normalized.

Five years ago, the ARRIVE trial contested a previously accepted belief: Induction of labor increases the risk of cesarean birth. Now, another study challenges ARRIVE’s findings.

The authors found:
⬆️Increases in cesarean birth rates after induction of labor in nulliparous, uncomplicated pregnancies
➡️From 37 to 41 weeks gestation

Why were ARRIVE’s results different? What research is urgently needed to inform safe practice going forward?

The study, Induction of labor and cesarean birth in lower-risk nulliparous women at term: A retrospective cohort study by Sarah E. Butler MD, Euan M. Wallace MD, Andrew Bisits MD, Roshan J. Selvaratnam PhD, Mary-Ann Davey DrPH, just published in Birth: Issues in Perinatal Care, takes on these crucial questions.

Kimm is excited to make our childbirth preparation workshop, the Havening Birth Technique for all home-birthers.  We originally developed this class to provide birth preparation for our own clients, combining a curriculum of how to mentally prepare for birth using the power of Havening, and fascinating insight into the neuroscience of labor.

Many of our clients have experienced the both powerful effects of Havening, and the unique approach to birth through our sessions.  If you are a home-birther looking for a quality birth preparation workshop, our first class will begin Oct 29th.  Sign up at https://perinatalhavening.com/classes/p/haveningbirthtechniques.

News from your midwives!

Heart Science Midwifery & The Centre for Perinatal Havening will be working a little more independently of each other starting April 2024. But fret not! Kimm isn’t tired of showing up to a birth that needs wisened hands and Kateryn still needs y’all to be well Havened, so there will still be collaboration!

A look into our future: Heart Science Midwifery is fully booked for perinatal care until April! It will then be taking a ~3 month sabbatical until ~July. Come ~July, Kateryn will independently start accepting those with due dates in ~October and onwards.

The Centre for Perinatal Havening with Kimm is ongoing! So for any mental health needs, please visit https://perinatalhavening.com or contact Kimm directly. She is also teaching a Havening Birth Techniques childbirth class!

Eva will keep her toes wet in the midwifery world and you may see her around!, but she is focusing on caring for her family.

We’re excited to continue caring for you all! Talk soon!

You’ve probably heard the term “client-centered care”. For us, it means meeting our families where they are working with them to create a safe, intimate and fulfilling experience. So when this little one cuddled up into her midwives’ hands as we picked her up to do her newborn exam, we kept her right there - undisturbed - and carried on to care for her peacefully, just as she had asked us to do.
