What does CICA stand for?
The original historical term “CICA‑CARE” (from cicatrix = scar) was used as early as the 1980s for medical‑grade silicone gel sheets to treat scars.
In the 1990s–2000s, French pharmaceutical companies used “Cica” in the context of skin healing. Avène Cicalfate introduced a copper + zinc mineral‑based skin repair complex, and La Roche‑Posay Cicaplast launched a combination of zinc, panthenol, and madecassoside (an ingredient derived from Centella asiatica that supports skin cell renewal and repairs the skin barrier).
Finally, in 2016, the K‑beauty (Korean beauty) brand Dr. Jart+ Cicapair established a new meaning of CICA = Centella asiatica (“tiger grass”) — a key ingredient with soothing, calming, and anti‑aging effects.
