What is the difference between acupuncture and dry needling?
Acupuncture
1. Is rooted in thousands of years old Traditional Chinese Medicine and uses the energy systems of the body to provide healing
2. Uses channel theory and over 365 points to address the dysfunctions that are creating pain, discomfort and ailments.
1. Acupuncture in and of itself isnโt influenced by western anatomy and physiology. It views the influence of our organs not for their biomedical function but for the energy that these organs are responsible for throughout the body
Dry Needling
1. Utilized and based completely off of western biomedical anatomy. Influencing the bodies fascial system (fascia and myofascia) to relieve pain.
1. Fascia is mechanically altered by the needles, alleviating the tautness in the tissue that is often experienced as tightness, limited range of motion and pain.
1. Dry needling is often deemed a must as a part of recovery for athletes of all sports to help with muscle fatigue, knots and endurance allowing for more strength and power gains.
Why do both?
By incorporating both acupuncture and dry needling into treatments we approach the cause of pain and discomfort from a whole-listic place getting patients back to focusing on improving their sport metrics and being the best athletes they can be.
