Institute of Herbal Medicine & Nutrition - Professor Drew

Institute of Herbal Medicine & Nutrition - Professor Drew Our health coaching program is rooted in the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Healing Arts, offering a holistic approach to health and wellness.

Combining ancient practices with modern science, this program provides a transformative experience. My journey started back in 1978 when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She chose natural treatments, and seeing her success inspired me to dive into this path myself. Since then, I’ve made it my mission to help others achieve better health. I have had a successful private practice and a speak

ing career in nutrition and Traditional Chinese Healing Arts for over 30 years. I am the founder and lead instructor at the New York Institute of Herbal Medicine & Nutrition, where I run a comprehensive one-year training program. This program integrates Chinese herbology, nutrition, medicine-making, healthy cooking classes, and Tai Chi, empowering students with the tools they need to help others heal naturally. Additionally, students have the opportunity to become nationally board certified as health coaches." I’ve also taught at institutions like NYU and Mount Sinai Hospital and served as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Bridgeport Acupuncture Institute. Additionally, I’ve taught in the Green Medicine Herbal Program at the New York Open Center, sharing my knowledge with aspiring holistic practitioners. I've had the privilege of speaking at events for organizations such as Ronald McDonald House and Gilda’s Club, as well as for major companies like American Express and Sony." Outside of health, I’m also a Green Energy Consultant, helping homeowners and businesses go green. I believe when we take care of our health, we’re also helping take care of the planet—heal thyself, heal thy planet.

We’re Taught to Clean Our Rooms, But Not Our Bodies

From the time we’re kids, we’re told to clean our rooms—make the bed, pick up the toys, take out the trash. But what about cleaning the inside of our bodies? No one teaches us how to detox from the processed foods, environmental toxins, and stress accumulated over the years.

We wash our hands, brush our teeth, and take showers, but how often do we cleanse our liver, flush out our lymphatic system, or reset our digestion? Our bodies work 24/7 to keep us functioning, but without proper care, they get sluggish, just like a room filled with dust and clutter.

It’s time we start seeing inner cleansing as essential, not optional. Whether through herbal detoxing, fasting, or simply eating whole, nourishing foods, we need to take responsibility for our internal environment as much as our external one. A clean body leads to a clear mind, better energy, and a healthier life.

Hello Everyone, Spring is just around the corner. In TCM, the Liver is responsible for the smooth flow of Qi (vital energy) and Blood throughout the body. It also governs emotions, especially anger, and is connected to detoxification. When in balance, it promotes creativity, vision, and decisiveness—qualities associated with Spring's energy. However, if the Liver is stagnant, one may experience irritability, mood swings, headaches, allergies, or digestive issues.

SPRING WISDOM! Eat light, fresh, and slightly cooling foods to support Liver function. • Include leafy greens, sprouts, dandelion, artichokes, beets, and citrus fruits (sour foods help regulate the Liver). Reduce heavy, greasy, and overly spicy foods to avoid burdening digestion. Drink green tea, chrysanthemum tea, or dandelion root tea for gentle detoxification.
