PsychoBabble, Brooklyn is a private psychotherapy practice with the following goals in mind: helping individuals and couples adjusting to difficult transitions, assisting families in working through difficult periods and becoming healthier and more cohesive in their functioning, and working with adults and children experiencing depression, anxiety, life-stage difficulties, grief and loss, coming-out issues and school-related difficulty. At PsychoBabble, Brooklyn, we believe that psychotherapy can be a useful tool for not only working through difficult periods, but also for understanding what patterns of behavior and relationships can lead to recurring difficulties in order to help our clients effectively change them. We work within a family-systems and insight-oriented framework in order to achieve these goals, and are skilled in using play therapy with children.

It’s pretty well-documented at this point that we internalize the messages that we’re surrounded by. There’s a whole psychotherapy modality, Narrative Therapy, that works off of the premise that we can create our reality through the stories we tell ourselves. There’s this curious thing that happens when we begin to be intentional about the messaging we surround ourselves with. We can actually influence our mood and thoughts and change our brains in ways that feel good or are beneficial to us! I’ve been making and posting these Sonic Spells playlists for a couple of years now with this intention in mind. This moon is offering us Scorpio's powers of intensity, depth and transformation to help us hold our hands to the flame in order to burn away the distractions that keep us from seeing the Selves we're meant to grow into. My name is Jan Marvin Ligan (he/his) and I am an advanced clinical social work intern and Masters of Science in Social Work (MSSW) candidate from Columbia University.
I am currently interning at Psychobabble Therapy and Wellness.

I am currently accepting new clients at a sliding scale rate of $20 to $80, with some pro-bono spots available.

I am available for virtual and in-person therapy sessions on Monday, Thursday, & Friday. In-person sessions are held in Ridgewood, Queens.

I have an interest in working with adults for individual therapy that identify as LGBTQIA2S+, BIPOC, are HIV+, have a history of substance use/misuse, or are at the intersection of any of these identities.

I am also interested in working with professionals from fast-paced environments with high potential for burnout & compassion fatigue.

I'm late to the party for this new moon! Virgo season always comes in really hot for me - I overschedule myself, feel super stressed out and feel as though all of my systems and structures have fallen apart in the liminal space between summer and autumn. BUT, as Virgo is encouraging us to do, I spent the day yesterday cleaning and organizing, I'm slowing down and being more intentional about the coming weeks and I'm getting myself back on track by sharing this with you all. During this new moon, can you connect back to yourself, your body and your larger plan? Virgo is a priestess. They plan, they purify, they connect to the Divine and it informs their practices and boundaries. They use their intuition to edit out what isn't needed and keep what allows them to practice with devotion. Perhaps during this new moon, you can too.

I just finished making this playlist for the new moon in Leo. This new moon in the fire sign of Leo, ruled by the sun and fueled by its current proximity with Pluto and Mercury retrograde is challenging us to feel around the edges of our relationship to external validation. Can you play with finding your inner lion heart and burn away self-doubt with the fire of the sun? Capricorn is an Earth sign ruled by Saturn, the Roman god of time, of generation, of agriculture and of wealth. As the god of time and agriculture, Saturn was the builder of structures of society, the creator of boundaries and labor and cycles and regimens.

What I've been thinking about this full moon is accessing my own inner Emperor, the Universal Father that teaches us about discipline and about boundaries, particularly self-discipline and healthy internal boundaries to do our life's work with grit and devotion. The fact that this placement is in Cancer allows us to do this with a softness and an eye to self-care that keeps us from the Saturnine rigidity that could entrap us. I relate to Sagittarius as an air sign that's caught fire. The search for wisdom, the truth-seeking, the learning...all very airy behavior, but driven by a passion and a focus that comes with fire. This Sagittarius moon, occurring in the airiest of air signs, invokes that energy. I'm focusing on using Sagittarius's fire to burn away the noise and distraction of false or nonsensical information in my path to finding Truth and Wisdom. Can you envision aiming your arrow at truth and then following it there? Your desire for wisdom burns bright, can you honor it and act accordingly? Can you Use your fire to burn away the noise of distraction and untruth during this full moon?

This is a support group for folks who’ve decided their goal is sobriety, but don’t resonate with the traditional AA pathway. The focus of this group will be helping participants create the conditions that will support them in achieving and maintaining the sober life that they want to build for themselves.

This group will help members cultivate sober community and peer support, build DBT and mindfulness-based self compassion skills to help them feel more resourced, and feel like they have a firm foundation for sobriety. This group is rooted in harm reduction - members don’t need to be sober to enter and there will be no resetting the clock in the case of a relapse.

This group will be taking place Tuesdays at 6pm. There will be a paid intake assessment to start, and groups will be $30/session with a 6-session commitment. Participants will have the option to continue after the initial 6 sessions. DM for information if you're interested, or reach out at the link in bio.

During times of turmoil and stress, it can be appealing to try to plan, to strategize, to consume information as though your life depends on it, to scrabble for whatever sense of control over our circumstances we think we can grab at to feel like we know the outcome of a future that hasn’t yet come to pass. We know from research, from spiritual teachings and perhaps from our own experience that this method only increases anxiety.

This 20-minute weekly group offering is meant to help us tap into our instincts and our intuition and to develop a trusting relationship with ourselves so that we really feel, deep in our bones, the we can withstand whatever comes. That we will keep ourselves safe.

Starting Monday 4/21, I’ll be meeting virtually on Mondays at 12pm until I can’t any more to use hypnosis to ground, to strengthen self-belief, and to bring you closer to your intuition so that you walk away feeling more relaxed and better assured in your ability to withstand troubling times. This moon invites us to step into the energy of Libra - this flowy Air sign is often described as being able to see all sides of an issue, which can create people-pleasing and indecision. This Libra full moon is occurring in the sign of Aries, Chiron, the Wounded Healer is in the mix, the world is wild, the cosmos is popping off, and this playlist will hopefully help you step into the energy of harmony within informing harmony without; recalibration as medicine; righteous rage and moral hurt driving the path toward peace.
