Brooklyn Herborium

Brooklyn Herborium We hand-craft holistic skincare goods based on functional herbalism in Brooklyn NYC. We offer holistic facial treatments.

We craft organic & sustainably wild-crafted herbal skincare goods on the premises. We carry local and organic produce and grocery items. You will also find small gifts of many kinds, like candles, linens, ceramics, and children's items. In 2012, Emma and Molly began this venture with a shared passion for crafting healthy herbal skincare products for their families, friends, and Emma's growing list of Facial Clients. Brooklyn Herborium soon grew to include our New York Community and has now travelled across the world. We still keep everything small and hand-crafted here in our workshop in Brooklyn, with intention and the flow of energy. We have two locations, both off the F & G Trains in Brooklyn. Our 319 Columbia Street Location is best reached by the B61 Bus (check website for open hours or to book an appointment) or the F Train at Carroll Street. Our Windsor Terrace Location is located at 1301 Prospect Ave--right accross the street from the F & G at Fort Hamilton Parkway.

Blessed spring dear ones… with the Earth at equinox, tilting towards the sun and the days growing longer, we find ourselves reconnecting with each other. We come out of our hibernation, we enjoy the beauty of the Earth blossoming. We celebrate the gentle rain. We cherish our shared experiences.
In a world that feels so divided, there is power in coming together to uplift each other. In the end, our collective evolution will be more beautiful and joyful than we can imagine. But right now we are experiencing the birthing pains.

What is Herbalcrafting?

Herbalcrafting is the art of creating topical skincare products, nourishing meals, and botanical medicinals.

Good herbalcrafting respects what we call “Two Gifts and a Curse’’

The first gift is the Gift of Mother Nature.

This gift is the plants and other ingredients just as nature provides them.

These are the raw materials that make up our foods, products, and medicines.

The second gift is the Gift of the Wise Women.

Here, we cherish and honor the wisdom of the Wise Woman Elders who have honed these methods over the generations to make them suitable for humans to utilize and have kept them sacred even as they pass their wisdom on.

The Curse refers to the natural temptation we humans have to want to stray from the spiral path.

It is a desire to keep on expanding, seeking progress at the expense of conserving that which needs protection.

Our intent at Brooklyn Herborium is to teach our community how to use natural materials in a way that honors both Mother Earth and our Wise Woman Elders. Sign up for our 12 week apprenticeship on our site!

Resting in the still point of today, Winter Solstice, honoring the pure potential that exists in this moment, orienting ourselves toward the light on the darkest point of the year.

Step forward on your path in a conscious way. Step out of chaos culture, don’t allow it to draw your energy. Connect into the field of coherence and plant the seeds of pure potential, aligned with integrity and vision.

Bring forth your gifts, your mission in alignment with harmony, balance, ease and grace.

We all can awaken to the luminous wisdom within us, becoming the blossoming flower of joy in service to creation.

Just rest in the quality of the Matrix, the Mother of all life, who birthed all that is, ignited the spark. What fears are holding us back, diminishing our experience? Extend the field of grace and beauty by being present in this precious moment. We can not be living in our past trauma if we are inhabiting this very moment. Seeing the beauty of the earth and sky right now.
None can suppress us or invade us without our permission. We are wisdom beings!

Ground into the Matrix of life, the nature of all reality, standing up in our true Nature. This is a life well lived.

Solstice Blessings!

Autumn Herbal Medicine-Making

Saturday, November 2 | 12pm -2 pm
$40 class fee | $10 materials fee

At the midway point between the Fall Equinox and Winter Solstice, nature invites us to direct our energy inward for reflection and nesting. More time indoors means more time for rest and hygge—but also more potential exposure to germs that cause illness. Herbal medicine has a long tradition of using plants to support our immune systems as both prevention and treatment of coughs, colds, flus, and the general feeling of being run-down that can creep in toward the end of the year as socializing and holidays ramp up.

In this workshop, we’ll take a hands-on approach to health by making traditional herbal preparations for fall and winter. These heating recipes boost the digestive fire and the immune system, so you can enjoy your year-end festivities and start 2025 in a place of vibrancy and enthusiasm. You’ll leave with batches of herbal medicine to share with your family, and recipes to replenish over the course of the season.

No prior knowledge of herbalism is required, and all ages are welcome!
(Bring the kiddos!)

Autumn Equinox Ritual Circle

Friday, Sept 20 | 6:30-8 pm at the Brooklyn Herborium Workshop (1301 Prospect Ave, Brooklyn 11218)

$40 class fee | $10 materials fee

The autumn equinox is the perfect time to pause and reflect on what we have and what we need for the season ahead. Like taking stock of the spices and dry goods in your kitchen cabinets, we can take stock of our energetic and emotional resources to plan for how we want to spend the last quarter of the year. Honoring our ever-changing needs is what it means to practice—not achieve—a state of balance.

Join us for a special seasonal ritual to reflect on the growth and expansion that took place over the summer, and set intentions for practicing balance in the fall. We will discuss traditional ways to honor the energetic shift into fall, and co-create unique rituals for our personal needs and to support collective stress reduction for our current moment of social change and uncertainty. With gratitude for the nourishing gifts of our herbal allies, we’ll craft two supportive teas (Detox and Inner Strength) to prepare our bodies to digest and stay resilient amidst the heaviness of fall.

Herbalcrafting after our apprenticeship W**d Walk. It was a perfect day in Prospect Park, and even the linden flowers popped into bloom for us. We tinctured linden - great for anxiety - and made smudges of artemisia with red clover - lovely for hanging nearby your bed for clearer dreams. Plantain, white pine, elderflowers, and ground elder went home to dry for tea.

Spring 2024 Herbal Crafter Apprenticeship

Starting Friday March 22, 2024, we will begin our Spring Herbal Crafter Apprenticeship! We absolutely love being able to offer this special training for people who want to dive deeper into the gifts of Mother Earth and our Wise Woman approach to herbal crafting. As we get busier in our workshop, we find that we are not able to do as much teaching as we would like. Take advantage of this session as we won't be holding another one until perhaps 2025.

Our Herbal Crafter Apprenticeship focuses on the how’s and why’s of our Functional Skincare Line along with some of our Apothecary products and Herbal Infusions and Herbal Medicinals. Many people go on from this apprenticeship to found their own skincare lines, become herbal or aesthetic practitioners, or add to their offerings in adjacent fields. Depending on the composition of the group, we may focus on particular aspects of our practice and production. We share any resource you may benefit from in order to support your growth. Our mission is to disseminate this wealth of knowledge to a greater audience so more people can benefit from traditional wisdom. These secrets are not to be held, but to be shared.

Location: This course is 100% IN-PERSON at our Windsor Terrace Workshop (1301 Prospect Ave, Brooklyn NY) .

Meets Friday mornings (9:30am until 1:30pm) for instruction and Herbacrafting: we’ll gather at our Windsor Terrace workshop for guided meditation and discussion about Brooklyn Herborium philosophy and methodology. We’ll share in functional wisdom. We’ll learn about holistic skincare, and we’ll craft skincare products together, too, working with beautiful raw materials.

Products: You will get to take home each of the products we make together, (along with samples of all the trial formulation work that we do here - we love your input!), which will allow you to really get to know how to care for your skin and health with herbal goods.
