“This season, I made the decision ahead of time to embrace calm on the inside—to let the screams of swimming kids tickle, not grind, on my nerves… to see it all as joy. I promised to see cooking quick, big meals not as a burden, but as a festive exercise in nourishment, flavor, and fun. (Kids are SO hungry when they swim! And there’s nothing cuter than wet faces biting into a juicy slice of watermelon.) I made it easy and fun—for them, and for me.

I challenged myself—even when dishes waited to be done, puddles needed mopping near the kitchen door that led to the pool, and emails were slowly dripping into my inbox—to lay down with my book and dive into words as sunlight peeked through the tall trees and laughter filled the air.

What I see now is this: managing stress that doesn’t belong to you—but that you’ve taken on anyway—will consume you.
But through healing, you can choose something different.”

✨The choice we can all make ✨

I write about a trigger that came up for me while traveling & how it made me reflect on the source of our sufferings.

This week, my 9-year-old daughter had a day off from school (one of those random superintendent days smack in the middle of the week). I used it as an opportunity to schedule her tooth cleaning in the city and do some spring shopping. 🛍️✨ A girl’s day together, I said. She was thrilled (particularly about the shopping).

Our family is going through some changes (for now, I’ll leave it at that), and her little self is definitely feeling it. 💔 There’s sadness, anger, and despite many explanations and conversations, some sizable confusion.

I like to think of myself as a present person—someone who slows down for others, listens well, hugs tight, and is generally there. But I’ve come to see that the very nature of things has made me fairly distracted and distractible. (More on that in future posts.)
On this day, I decided to really be PRESENT—and friends, presence really is a choice. ✨ As much as possible, I put the iPhone down 📵, held her hand tightly, listened intently to her chitter-chatter, and reveled in the little things she noticed or thought were funny. I noticed that my breathing was slower, my mental state was less fragmented, and I really and truly enjoyed everything we experienced... Really and Truly. I was there. 💖

With more presence, I witnessed my daughter:
