I'm willing to bet that you've experienced a tight muscle or spasm at some point. Did you know that physical therapists treat this with trigger point release? Here's how:

Dr. Jordan Seda is a doctor of physical therapy, strength and conditioning and capoeira coach in NYC. This post discusses a patient’s struggles with back pain after surgery.

Back pain? If you’re someone that stands on two feet and breathes, you’ve probably experienced it 🤕.

Since I’m familiar with this client’s case and his symptoms were more focused directly in his lower back, I challenged him with a combination of nerve glides, eccentric loading and weighted deadlifts.

🙅🏻‍♂️No, these aren’t for everyone, but let this serve as a reminder that you don’t need to be afraid to move with back pain. If you need guidance to return from an injury, DM me and let’s talk!

We’re out here cooking 🧑🏻‍🍳 or as Varun says, “It’s getting a bit spicy”🌶️.

The big toe, if you haven’t noticed, is essential for having a normal gait pattern and for all activities involving pushing off.

🤙🏼Varun and I will be working hard until his toe no longer hurts and he is free to do whatever he wishes in the gym. FOLLOW ME to keep tabs on his recovery journey.

If you were in Varun’s shoes, which other exercise would you want to try at this point?

Remember Varun? 🤓

After 4 weeks, we were able to begin training without a boot while standing up as weight bearing precautions were lifted 👊🏼.

I personally have not walked in a boot, but muscles do atrophy over time so it is imperative to challenge the body slowly and, often times, in modified ranges of motion.

🤙🏼Keep FOLLOWING me to stay on this journey with us.

Also, if you’ve had surgery and need someone to guide you through your recovery, DM me and let’s talk!

Varun is a stand-up guy; except that standing up wasn’t easy after surgery on his great toe 🤕.

This is what we did on our first visit together in late August (can’t wait to show you where we’re at today 🤗).

We had strict weight bearing precautions so loading his tissues required more strategic consideration.

🤙🏼FOLLOW me to continue along Varun’s journey to recovery and freedom from the boot!

Have you had an orthopedic surgery before?

Yesterday was a special moment for me to end an incredible week with in Rio de Janeiro for our 2nd Edition of Imersão Cultural Brasileiro.

Spending time with my family and sharing this experience with them was so rewarding. It was also nice to hear from wife that all of the hours and sweat from training were apparent while I was playing capoeira 😋.

I have so many people to thank for my continued growth in capoeira. Every one of my classmates gives me their best when we play, the students of other Brazilian institutions on this trip challenged me, but the continued guidance and support from my Mestre, is helping shape what I hope to be a long, fulfilling capoeira career.

Muito obrigado novamente a todos vocês 🙏🏼.

If you have shoulder tightness, you might want to consider the mobility of your thoracic spine. 🤔

KEEP SCROLLING ➡️

In the last two videos, I’m demonstrating how to improve thoracic extension and how to be mindful of how no to overdo it with extension while raising your arm overhead.

If you found this useful, give me a FOLLOW, SAVE this for later and SHARE with a friend 👊🏼.

6/29/15. I saw my first patient at a small practice near Columbus Circle.

10 years later, I think back to the thousands of people I’ve been able to help over the years.

The wife of a dear client who passed away last year symbolized what it’s all about at his celebration of life event on Friday. She said “you gave me three more years with him” and that he maintained his ‘joie de vivre’ while working with me. 🥹

I’m fortunate that, since age 14 after a badly sprained ankle, I knew that this was the path I was going to take. I’ve learned from some of the best clinicians in the world and it’s still only just the beginning for me.

I appreciate all of you; even those who doubted me 😉. Many more years in practice to come!

The first two visits for a capoeirista with knee pain:

1. Teach her how to better utilize her glutes and hamstrings with hinges
2. Develop multidirectional control of her knee in ‘ginga position’
3. Control hyperextension of her knee to reduce strain

These are a few of many exercises you can apply in a physical therapy program for knee pain. If you’ve found this useful, SAVE and SHARE it 🤙🏼

I haven’t created a training video in years, but it’s time! I believe that these 5 exercises could be very useful to capoeiristas (and others who don’t train capoeira as well). And if you’re one of the first 5 people to COMMENT below with “🙋🏻‍♂️”, I’ll DM you and send it to you for FREE!

If you snooze, you can find the link for it in my bio 👍🏼.
