When your kid whacks you in the face 😳

Your instinct is to say "Ow! Don't hit!"
But here's what they actually need to hear:

"I won't let you hit me. Hitting hurts."

"You're upset. You can stomp your feet or squeeze this pillow."

Their brain literally doesn't have the wiring yet to use words when they're overwhelmed.

All behavior is communication.


Your job isn't to make them feel ashamed or guilty.

Look at the patterns. Are they hungry, tired or overstimulated?
