Feeling that midday slump? ✨

Shiatsu reminds us that balance begins with awareness. When your energy feels low, scattered, or β€œoff,” pause and realign instead of pushing through.

Take a few mindful breaths, stretch gently, and reconnect with your center β€” a small reset can restore clarity, focus, and flow for the rest of your day. 🌿

03/10/2026

Shiatsu offers whole-body benefits 𝑩𝑼𝑻 it can also be wonderfully focused. ✨

Targeted techniques β€” seen here with Grandmaster Kumiko Kanayama performing leg rotations and foot Shiatsu β€” help address specific areas while encouraging energy to flow freely throughout the body.

The result: released tension, improved mobility, and a deeper sense of balance from head to toe. 🌿

Today we honor the strength, wisdom, and compassion of women everywhere. πŸ’œ

At the Five Lights Center of Shiatsu, we are deeply grateful for the women who lead, teach, heal, and nurture our community through the art of mindful touch. From teachers and practitioners to students and clients, your presence shapes a more balanced and compassionate world.

Shiatsu reminds us that true strength flows with sensitivity, intuition, and care β€” qualities women embody and share every day.

May we continue to uplift one another, cultivate wellness, and create spaces where every woman’s voice, healing, and leadership are valued.

Happy International Women’s Day 🌸

In Shiatsu, the body is understood through the dynamic relationship of the Five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. 🌿πŸ”₯πŸŒπŸ’§βœ¨

This cycle reflects the natural rhythms of life and the way energy flows through the body. When the elements are in harmony, they support balance, vitality, and regeneration.

In Shiatsu practice, understanding the Five Elements helps practitioners sense where energy may need supportβ€”allowing touch to guide the body back toward balance.

The Five Lights Center of Shiatsu Studies

At the Five Lights Center, located New York City's Upper West Side, we believe that to give and receive the healing touch is the most human and innate of activities.

Give a Go MEANS Five Shiki MEANS light Kan MEANS Center: In modern shiatsu teachings, Go Shiki refers to the heat and energy in our hands. When we bring our two hands together in a gesture of reverence (Gassho), the right hand represents the Buddha and the left hand represents our own, physical being. Through our touch, we pray for healing energy and light to balance our energy channels in mind and body. Our motto is: The Power of Touchβ„’ We develop our inner ear in order to hear the flow of energy. We strive to let go of our egos, projections and judgments, to become healing light, able to give loving kindness to others. Participants are aided in their pursuit of peace, healing, health and freedom from restriction and pain. The Center for five lights offers Shiatsu, Reiki, Yoga, Qi Gong, Karate, Makko ho stretches, mindful meditation and other practices. These practices have proved to be effective tools and powerful pathways for creating and sustaining individual, family and community wellness. We foster deep communal support among members and a sense that the work is a group effort for the benefit of all of humanity and the Earth.
