CPM is excited to welcome our new midwifery student, Elaine Tian, to the team! Elaine T will be joining us from next week until November. She will be seeing clients along side the midwives in the office for prenatal care, gynecology, and preconception visits.
Originally from Seattle, Washington, Elaine (she/her) is a midwifery student at Columbia University. She earned her undergraduate degree in Studio Art and Art History from Carleton College. Her interest in reproduction and birth emerged during her studies, when she was drawn to depictions of the human body and fertility. This curiosity evolved into a career in healthcare after working as a medical assistant at Brooklyn Birthing Center. There, she collaborated closely with midwives and witnessed how labor and birth brought those subjects to life in powerful, deeply human ways.
Following this path, Elaine completed Columbia’s MDE program to become a registered nurse in 2022. She then worked as a labor and delivery nurse at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, caring for marginalized and underserved communities. Now in her final year of Columbia’s DNP midwifery program, she is committed to advancing equitable, person-centered reproductive care.
Elaine lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two cats. Outside of her clinical work and studies, she enjoys wandering museums, reading novels, painting, and relaxing with a comfort show.
