It’s been a few weeks since CPM officially closed its doors on the UWS. Packing up the office was not physically or emotionally easy. I’m so grateful for Danielle, who was able to stay and spent the final office day with me. CPM isn’t fully over yet and I am still seeing the postpartum clients for their visits. We are also still working on lots of medical record requests, slowly but surely. I want to express again how grateful I am for all of the love and support for CPM over the years. I could not have done it without all of you! ❤️ Elaine

This practice was a journey and huge part of my life for the last 12 years. It hadn’t been part of my plan to run a midwifery practice, but I’m so glad that I took the leap. I couldn’t have done it without the amazing support of so many!

To Georgia Rose for trusting me and giving me this opportunity and gift. To the midwives: Jo Zasloff, Chloë Lubell, Christina McPherson, Jenna Sood, and Cara Pauls for helping to build, grow, and maintain this amazing practice.

Our assistants: Demetra, Melissa, Molly, Maggie, Fran, Megan, Lesa, Zara, Maddie, Jen, Diamond, and Danielle.

Our students: Cara, Neelu, Maggie, Hannah, Rachel, Modestea, and Elaine. And many other shadowers too!

My husband, Fred, for encouraging me to take this crazy opportunity and being a midwife’s husband (no easy feat!) and to my daughter for always being so proud of me and for loving being the kid of a midwife!

CPM will always hold a special place in my heart. It was so much of my life for so many years. I couldn’t have done it without all of the love and support from everyone (and more!) listed above. And the true stars of the practice - the clients - without you, none of this would have been possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Feeling grateful for the opportunity to slow down and reflect during the past week after a busy week before (4 babies!!). A week ago, I attended the beautiful birth of the last CPM baby. Like all births, it was special and unique, but also filled with a lot of bittersweet feelings about this chapter of my life closing soon. It was so fitting that she was a 3rd time CPM alum and the last person due on our roster for the year. The next few weeks are slower paced, but which I am thankful for, as it is also a time with many emotions as we pack up the office and close the practice. Thank you for all of your love and support! I’ve read all the messages (and holiday cards!) and feel so much gratitude and love. Wishing everyone the most joyous holiday! Love, Elaine ❤️

👣 Each labor and birth experience is unique, no matter how many babies you’ve had, no two are alike! This third time mama showed so much strength and determination as she navigated this journey. Elaine was so happy to be by her side as she met her baby girl, telling herself and her baby “I’m fine, all is ok” as the head emerged. We are so happy for this third time mama (all at CPM!) and her two brothers who are so excited to meet her!

👣 Patience and surrender are two things that almost all pregnancy and labor require. This mama showed both during the last few weeks of her pregnancy and during labor and birth. She was able to do this with strength and love and we are so proud of her! Elaine was blessed to be by her side as she gave birth early yesterday morning, along with a fabulous birth team! With great joy, Elaine is so happy to announce the birth of a baby boy this afternoon. This baby was punctual like his parents and while certain parts of labor were unexpected, it was also smooth and beautiful. His mama showed super strength while pushing - her pregnancy workouts made her feel so prepared for this big event. We are so excited for this family!

👣 Elaine is so thrilled to welcome this strong baby boy this morning! His mama and dad have been waiting to meet him after a long journey! This mama navigated some unexpected challenges during her journey, including during her pregnancy and labor. She made some tough decisions that felt right for her! She brought her baby into the world and onto her chest with immense strength and love, supported by an awesome team and cheering squad rooting her on! Congratulations! 👣 This baby girl was born into Elaine’s hands early this morning and we couldn’t be happier! We were all eagerly awaiting this baby after many of the clues leading up to labor were happening, and mama surrendered to the process and patiently waited for the turn of labor. We all welcomed it with joy and reveled at the smoothness of it all. So thrilled to have had this birthday party this morning! We can’t wait to see how big bro feels about baby sister.

👣 Yesterday afternoon, Elaine was so thrilled to welcome this surprise baby boy into the world. His mama gave birth with grace and calm. She surprised everyone (including herself) with this baby suddenly making his appearance. She was supported by her fantastic partner and doula who helped her every step. It was such an honor to meet this baby and we can’t wait til he meets his sisters (also CPM babies!). Congratulations!!

👣The thing about birth is that it’s always capable of giving you something you haven’t quite seen before. Sunday afternoon birth did this for Cara when our client broke her water, started contractions within 15 minutes, and had her baby around 30 minutes later! Yes you heard that right, our client’s labor was so fast that if you blinked you might have missed it. She and her partner exhibited incredible calm in the most unexpected of circumstances and grandma even made it back from the park around the corner with big sister to help usher her new granddaughter into the world. So in lieu of the typical footprint pics I give you this: a picture of the Shake Shack ordered before labor that arrived after the baby was born. Grateful, as always, for our clients trust in us but this birth was a masterclass in how a birthing person can trust themselves! Congratulations to this new family of 4!

👋🥺 With deep sadness, we share with all of you the difficult news we shared with our clients recently: Central Park Midwifery will be closing permanently at the end of this year.

🙏 We’re immensely grateful to all the clients who’ve honored us with their trust, and to our fellow birth workers, colleagues, collaborators, and friends who’ve supported us so much over the years! In a healthcare system that becomes less and less personal every day, we strived to ensure that CPM remained an oasis of exceptional, individualized care.

💞 At this time, we are grieving the loss of our practice and focusing our attention on the clients currently in our care. We don’t yet know what’s next for each of us in this work that we love, but whatever we do, we’ll carry the incredible spirit of CPM with us everywhere we go.

👣Cara is so excited to announce a petite baby girl joined us early early Saturday morning! She was welcomed by the sound of her mom and dad singing the same song they sang to her as she grew 🥰. Her mom faced an unexpected change of plans near the end of her pregnancy that meant she met her baby a little sooner than expected and rolled with the punches beautifully. Midway through labor, baby girl briefly lost her way but with some targeted Spinning Babies® moves we were able to get her locked and loaded and labor moved quickly from there! This incredible, strong mom pushed like she meant it until her baby was safely in her arms! She was beautifully supported by her partner and sister all the while and when all was said and done told us that with us by our side she felt safe, heard, and supported. What more could we want? Congratulations to this family! 💕
