Vascular malformations are present at birth but may not be immediately visible. Comprising arteries, veins, or lymphatic channels, they do not shrink and typically grow slowly. Both males and females are equally affected.

The five major types are midline venular malformations, venular malformations (port wine stains), venous, arteriovenous, and lymphatic.
