NON TOXIC ORAL CARE SWAPS 🦷🪥✨

seven years ago after my first baby, i went to the dentist and left with a root canal

i had never had cavities before kids, so assumed it was a one off

but then every appointment after that was another cavity or an area they wanted to keep an eye on

i started dreading the dentist

after pregnancy and nursing, your body can be depleted of minerals and the oral microbiome can shift. for lots of moms, cavities suddenly become “normal”

last summer i made the switch to a mineral toothpowder that:

HOMEMADE NUTELLA 🍫✨

store bought nutella contains seed oils, refined sugar + other additives so make your own instead with 5 simple ingredients

YOU NEED
(use organic ingredients when possible)

* 2 c hazelnuts
* 1/4 c unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1/3 c coconut sugar
* 1/2 tsp vanilla
* 1/8 tsp sea salt

WHAT TO DO

- preheat oven to 400 degrees
- place hazelnuts on a parchment lined baking sheet + bake for about 8 minutes
- let cool, then use a dish towel to rub hazelnuts together to remove skins (this can take a few minutes, it’s okay if some skins remain)
- add hazelnuts to food processor and blend on low for about 5 minutes, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed
- add in the cocoa powder, coconut sugar, vanilla + sea salt and blend on low an additional 5 minutes, stopping to scrape down sides as needed

store in a mason jar at room temperature up to 2 weeks, or 1 month in the fridge

HOMEMADE GUMMY BEARS ✨

some gummy bears can contain 19 ingredients, including corn syrup, artificial colors and fake flavors. even the organic ones have around 13 and contain seed oils. so skip the store bought options + make your own with 3 simple ingredients!

YOU NEED

* 2 c juice of choice
* 3 scoops grass fed gelatin
* 1/8 c to 1/4 c honey (optional, you can add more or less to taste)

WHAT TO DO

- add juice to the pot
- sprinkle gelatin over the top and let bloom for a few minutes
- stir, add the honey + warm over medium heat until fully dissolved
- let it cool for about 15 minutes before adding to molds, making sure to stir occasionally
- set in the fridge for a couple of hours, then remove from molds + store in airtight container in the fridge

these last up to 2 weeks, but your kids will eat these much quicker!

a few tips:

- use organic juice with one ingredient (ie apple juice with just apples)
- avoid citrus as it can affect the gelatin
- if you don’t have molds, pour into a glass baking dish and cut into squares once set

health benefits:

in addition to being great for gut health, grass fed gelatin is good for your skin, supports your joints and helps with inflammation, metabolism, healthy brain function + sleep

“EAT YOUR BOTOX” SARDINE SALAD 🐟✨

YOU NEED
(use organic ingredients when possible)

* 1 tin of sardines, drained
* dollop of mayo
* squeeze of dijon
* generous pinch of sea salt
* pepper, to taste
* ~ 2 tbsp diced purple onion
* ~ 1/4 c diced cornichons or pickles of choice

WHAT TO DO

- add sardines to a bowl + mash
- then add remaining ingredients + mix to combine

for serving: enjoy on some flax crackers with tomato or your palette of choice

eat them twice a week to enjoy the benefits, here are a few (in no particular order):
omega 3’s for glowy skin + healthy hair
full of protein
rich in dha for brain health
strong bones
immune support
full of minerals
and they’re a low mercury seafood

HOMEMADE FANTA 🍊✨

next time you’re craving a fanta, make this instead - it’s husband approved so you know it has to be good

5 simple ingredients > high fructose corn syrup, sodium benzoate, fake flavors, yellow 6 + red 40

YOU NEED
(use organic ingredients when possible)

* 1/2 c filtered water
* 2 strips orange rind
* 1 c orange juice
* 1/3 c maple syrup
* pinch of sea salt
* sparkling water

WHAT TO DO

- add water + orange rinds to a pot and bring to a boil over medium heat
- once it boils, remove from heat, let sit 10 minutes + strain
- add orange juice, maple + sea salt and stir to combine

store in an airtight container in the fridge up to one week

to use: add 1/4 c over ice to a 12 oz glass + top with sparkling water (adjust as needed, to taste)

HIGH PROTEIN PIZZA DOUGH 🍕✨

YOU NEED
(use organic ingredients when possible)

* 2 c all purpose flour
* 3 tsp baking powder
* 1/2 tsp sea salt
* 1/4 tsp garlic powder
* 1 1/4 c plain full fat greek yogurt

WHAT TO DO

- preheat oven to 400
- combine all dry ingredients, then mix in the yogurt with your hands until ball forms
- roll onto a parchment lined baking sheet to approx 12”
- bake 12 minutes, then remove
- add sauce, cheese and your favorite toppings + return to oven for 15 minutes

to make my pickle pizza: top with homemade ranch, shredded mozzarella, pickle slices + some more shredded mozz

YOU NEED

WHAT TO DO

- add all ingredients into a mason jar + mix well to combine

pour over your favorite hot or iced coffee + enjoy

HOMEMADE COOL RANCH DORITOS ✨

when i made my homemade nacho cheese doritos, so many of you asked for cool ranch, so here it is!

skip the seed oils, msg, red 40, blue 1 + yellow 5 and make your own cool ranch doritos with 10 simple ingredients

YOU NEED
(use organic ingredients when possible)

* 8 corn tortillas
* avocado oil
* 1 tbsp dried parsley
* 1 tbsp dried chives
* 2 1/2 tsp onion powder
* 2 tsp garlic powder
* 1 tsp dried dill
* 1 tsp paprika
* 1 tsp sea salt
* pepper, to taste

WHAT TO DO

- preheat oven to 350 + line a baking sheet with parchment paper
- cut tortillas into 8 pieces - stacking + using a sharp knife is an easy way to do this
- in a blender, combine spices and blend til fine
- place cut tortillas on baking sheet + lightly spray with avocado oil (if you don’t have spray, simply toss half the cut tortillas with a light drizzle of avocado oil in a bowl, then place onto baking sheet)
- bake approx 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway
- remove from oven and immediately place into a bowl while hot, spray lightly with some more avocado oil (or drizzle), toss and then add about 1 tbsp of seasoning and toss some more to coat evenly
- repeat for the second batch

let cool + store in an airtight container up to 2 days

note: this makes approx 4 tbsp of seasoning, so feel free to add more to taste or store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place until you’re ready to make your next batch

KOREAN DRUG EGGS 🥚✨

when i saw this recipe, i knew i had to try it + it did not disappoint!

i made some minor tweaks to the original, but thanks to for the recipe!

YOU NEED
(use organic ingredients when possible)

* 5 eggs
* 1/2 c tamari (or soy sauce)
* 1/2 c filtered water
* 4 cloves of garlic, diced
* 4 green onions, sliced
* 1/4 c diced purple onion
* 2 tbsp rice vinegar
* 2 tbsp honey
* 1 tbsp sesame seeds

WHAT TO DO

- boil water, then add eggs + reduce to a simmer for 7 minutes to get the yokes nice and jammy; then place in an ice bath for 5 minutes
- peel eggs + add to a bowl
- top with all the ingredients, then put on the lid and give it a good shake to mix it all up
- place in the fridge for 24 hours

lasts up to 4 days in the fridge
