☀️ Out of Office (Sort of…)

I’m currently in Spain, taking some much-needed time to rest, enjoy the sun, recharge by the sea, and spend quality time with family — and, of course, indulge in all the delicious food.

That said, I’m still providing services while away — so thank you for your patience as I catch up and balance work and holiday time.

¡Qué calor hace! But I’m not complaining. 😎🌊🍷

Wishing everyone a joyful and restorative holiday weekend!

📣 With Direction, LLC will provide ASL interpreting services for the upcoming XR Access Symposium (June 26 & June 27th), organized by XR Access and Cornell University, in New York City.

The organizers asked me to help promote the event within my professional network, particularly among Deaf professionals who may be interested in attending. While it’s not a Deaf-specific event, the sessions focus on accessibility in XR and emerging technologies, and Deaf perspectives are welcome.

🗓️ The deadline to register for in-person attendance is tomorrow (FRIDAY, June 18)
📍 Hybrid format: attend in person or via Zoom

I’ve been interpreting side events at the UN COSP since 2012—but this year was a milestone.

For the first time, I stepped into the role of coordinator and company owner, managing contracts, schedules, and logistics—while still interpreting. A full shift in perspective, and a challenge I couldn’t have taken on without this phenomenal team.

To the International Sign interpreters and co-interpreters who showed up with such dedication, professionalism, and heart: thank you.

Together, we provided access for 40 side events—more than ever before. And many of you paid your own way to be here, choosing to invest your time and energy in this work. That generosity and commitment to access does not go unnoticed. I’m deeply grateful.

In partnership with All Hands in Motion, we created something powerful. This dinner photo isn’t just an end-of-week moment—it’s a reminder of what Deaf-led collaboration makes possible. 💙

COSP18 International Sign (IS) Access Announcement

We’re excited to introduce the Deaf Community Hub, a vital resource to enhance access at this year’s COSP.

This page indicates which side events will have International Sign (IS) interpretation, enabling Deaf delegates to stay informed and plan accordingly.

We encourage you to take an active role in this initiative by sharing this resource widely within the Deaf community!

🚨 COSP18 IS Interpreter Slots Are Filling Fast

We’re coordinating International Sign (IS) interpreting services for COSP18, and requests are coming in quickly — including for parallel side events happening on the same day.

To expand access, I’ve submitted a funding request to help support Deaf IS interpreters from underrepresented regions. While we await confirmation, bookings are already underway and availability is limited.

If you’re hosting a side event or need IS support, reach out now to ensure coverage.

“To Intralingual is to… wait, what?”
🗓️ Thursday, May 8 at 7:00 PM EST
💻 Online Webinar

Next week, I’ll lead a session exploring Intralingual Interpreting—a form of interpreting often misunderstood as simple rewording. In reality, it involves complex linguistic decision-making and reflects the unique ways Deaf people engage with and shape language.

This talk is grounded in my research on Deaf interpreters in legal settings, but the conversation will extend far beyond the courtroom. It’s about reframing how we think about language variation, identity, and communication access.
