Team NYPC stepped out for a great cause this weekend at the Kids Walk for Kids with Cancer 💛 hosted by Band of Parents.

This event was a meaningful way to come together outside of the Center to support children and families facing cancer.

We're proud to stand alongside the incredible Band of Parents community and their mission.

Thymic cancers are rare, which means choosing the right care team is especially important.

In a recent interview, Dr. Charles B. Simone, II, Chief Medical Officer at NYPC, explains how specialists work together to guide treatment—and how newer approaches like proton therapy can precisely target tumors while helping protect nearby organs like the heart and lungs.

Watch the video to learn more about how thoughtful, team-based care can improve outcomes.

Dr Charles Simone highlights the necessity of multidisciplinary care and advanced radiation, like proton therapy, to improve survival in rare thymic cancers.

What does it mean to truly “cure” cancer?

In a new opinion piece in The Cancer Letter, Dr. Isabelle Choi explores how the future of radiation oncology must go beyond tumor control to protect long-term health and quality of life. She highlights how proton therapy is transforming care—using advanced precision to reduce radiation exposure to the heart, lungs, and other critical organs.

Dr. Choi makes a compelling case for why reducing treatment-related toxicity is essential to redefining cancer survivorship.

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month

This animation shows how pencil beam scanning (PBS) proton therapy treats cancer—by “painting” the tumor layer by layer with a highly focused beam of radiation.

Because the beam can be so precisely controlled, it targets the tumor while helping to limit exposure to nearby healthy tissues like the mouth, jaw, and salivary glands.

A more precise approach to treating cancers of the oral cavity.

This National Doctors' Day, we’re proud to celebrate the physicians at NYPC whose dedication, compassion, and commitment to patient care make a difference every day.

We asked a few members of our team, “What inspired you to go into medicine?”

From early inspiration shaped by family in medicine to personal experiences witnessing the impact of cancer care, each brings a unique perspective—but all share a common purpose: to care for patients with expertise, empathy, and respect.

March is National Nutrition Month 🥗

Nutrition plays an important role in supporting health during and after cancer treatment. Earlier this year, NYPC Registered Dietitian Rachel Padilla shared practical tips in her presentation for our Patient Alumni Network “What Should I Eat? Tips for a Healthy New Year.”

From everyday healthy eating strategies to guidance tailored for people going through cancer treatment, the session offers helpful insights for patients, survivors, and anyone looking to build better nutrition habits.

Advancing the future of proton therapy through collaboration.

Last week, the New York Proton Center (NYPC) hosted its inaugural Consortium Research Retreat, bringing together radiation oncology experts from across our partner institutions.

Researchers and clinicians from NYPC, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center , Montefiore Health System, and The Mount Sinai Hospital gathered to share ideas and explore new collaborative research in proton therapy — from clinical trials and patient-reported outcomes to emerging areas like AI, FLASH radiotherapy, and adaptive treatment planning.

Special thanks to Dr. Isabelle Choi, Director of Research at NYPC, and Dr. Charles B. Simone II, Chief Medical Officer at NYPC, for their leadership, and to all the faculty who contributed to this inspiring day of discussion and collaboration.

Celebrating Social Work Month 💛

This week, we recognized our incredible social work team at NYPC. This year’s theme — “Uplift. Defend. Transform.” — is reflected every day in the compassionate care provided by Chrissy Rubin, LCSW and Mark Eala, LMSW.

Thank you for the guidance, advocacy, and support you provide to our patients and families throughout their treatment journey.

Did our Social Work team make an impact during your care at NYPC? Share your experience in the comments. ⬇️

February is American Heart Month — and it’s also a reminder that how we treat cancer today can impact heart health for years to come.

For many breast cancer patients, especially those with left-sided tumors, protecting the heart during radiation therapy is an important part of care. Proton therapy is designed to precisely target the tumor while reducing radiation exposure to the heart and lungs.

Read our blog to learn more:

At the NYPC, we are focused on advancing radiation therapy approaches that treat cancer effectively while minimizing short- and long-term risks for our patients. For patients with breast cancer, particularly left-sided disease, heart protection is a critical part of that conversation.
