Congratulations to our very own therapist, Meredith Morrissey, who completed her EMDR training which means she can begin to integrate the EMDR modality into her work with clients.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured trauma therapy that encourages the client to briefly focus on emotionally disturbing material while simultaneously focusing on external stimuli such as eye movements or tapping, which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with traumatic memories or memories of disturbing life events.

Feeling anxious? Sometimes, putting pen to paper can make all the difference.

Journaling can be a powerful way to pause, reflect, and create space for calm in the midst of anxiety. Try this prompt and see where your thoughts take you:

Imagine your anxiety is a bully who follows you around at inopportune times. What does the bully look like? What kinds of things is he or she saying to you? What makes him or her feel stronger and what makes him or her want to back off?

We wanted to share some takeways from our June AGP therapists' book club. The goal is for our team to read books related to mental health that can then be recommended to our clients. We are happy to share the main takeaways from our recent book, "Come As You Are" by Emily Nagoski, PH.D. In this book, Dr. Nagoski shares cutting-edge research about how and why women's s*xuality works and how to transform your s*x life into a fulfilled one thats filled with confidence and joy.

The main takeaways from the book:

1. The importance of recognizing we all have the same parts, they are just organized differently. What is important is to learn and get to know yourself and learn self acceptance through this.

2. Discovering your own normalcy as everyone has their own subjective reality

3. The recognition of how context can impact how you feel. At one moment something may feel very right and that same gesture at another moment may feel very wrong.

4. The "Dual control model" of s*xual arousal as "accelerators" and "brakes" and the response to s*xual stimuli. "Accelerators" turn on arousal while "brakes" turn it off. Understanding these responses to further understand one's needs.

We continue to celebrate and honor the LGBTQIA+ community throughout the entire month of Pride! We recognize that it is essential to continue to advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights and celebrate le***an, gay, bis*xual, and transgender pride.
