Bilateral Canine Impactions: Sometimes not one, but both canines lose their path and aren't able to erupt into the mouth by themselves😞😒😏 Both canines were impacted☠️ Initial, progress and final Panoramic images were taken during a two year orthodontic treatment. 🔅As you can imagine it was quite a feat to get both of them into their proper positions. When the angle of the canine impaction is very steep, there are higher risks of root resorption, which basically means the roots of the adjacent teeth may potentially get shorter. Thankfully roots remained intact since all efforts were taken to minimize these risks🤗 In the initial few months of treatment, surgical exposures were necessary to bond an attachment(usually gold chain💰⛓) by an oral surgeon to allow us track the tooth into its position.

This young boy presented to our office for an evaluation.

What looked like a straight forward case (boring😑) turned out to be extremely fun and challenging😬.

After examining the X-rays, besides the wisdom teeth a permanent second molar was categorized as impacted👹.

Sometimes teeth get detoured ⬅️⬇️⬆️➡️and fail to erupt into the mouth. In situations like this a referral to an oral surgeon 🤓 is necessary to expose and bond the gold chain onto impacted tooth/teeth🤪.

Establishing proper diagnosis, and employing right treatment mechanics is crucial to achieve successful resolution of any impactions.

Our young man’s situation was dealt with conventional orthodontic therapy without any miniscrews.

Patient had prior orthodontic treatment along with surgery.

Longstanding left posterior crossbite resulted in a canter smile as well as mandibular deviation.

🔑 Key to correct this type of situation is not via dental alignment, but mandibular guidance via dental contacts.

From severe crowding , midline deviation, to cross bite of the back teeth this young teenage girl had it all. •

With positive attitude, proper diagnosis and treatment plan orthodontic treatment was initiated and lasted ~2 years. •
•
With the right treatment mechanics and at the expense of 4 premolars, crowding was resolved, midlines were aligned, cross bite and functional shift were corrected. •
