Found Object is a creative agency that harnesses the power of storytelling in the social impact space. We create story-led campaigns that inform, inspire and influence. Recognizing that the barriers between social impact and commerce have blurred, we shape video content and distribution plans to reach audiences that are increasingly interested in the intersection between brand values and real world actions.

Our second teaser for Immutable drops today — a film about the power of voice, choice, and civic life.

Big thanks to 92nd Street Y for sharing this moment with us — where ideas spark community. Join us for a special screening on February 7th at 7pm followed by a talk with co-directors Gabriel London and Charlie Sadoff, New York University's Will Baker and Matthew Harris Ornstein Memorial Foundation Vice President, Norm Ornstein. This event will be hosted by none other than 92NY's Rabbi David Ingber.

Won't be able to make it? Don't worry! We are excited to announce that PBS will broadcast Immutable on March 6, aligned with National Speech & Debate Education Day.

Charlie and Gabe will be in Charlottesville for Virginia Film Festival's Year Round on February 3rd for a screening and Q&A. Tickets are available now - hope to see you there!

VAFF Year Round continues in February with IMMUTABLE, an inspiring documentary about students from the Washington Urban Debate League who push themselves to become top-tier debaters.

Beginning at an annual summer debate camp during the final days of the COVID pandemic, the film follows a group of dedicated young debaters. They confront daily challenges that range from housing instability to neurodivergence and accessibility, as they immerse themselves in research, critical thinking, teamwork, and performance. For some, debate is a path to college. For others, it’s a lifeline.

Following the screening, co-directors Charlie Sadoff and Gabriel London will join us for a discussion.

The Stepping Up Initiative is partnering with psychiatrists, judges, and community leaders to deliver solutions to combat the crisis of mental illness behind bars. Today, jails hold many more people with mental illnesses than psychiatric hospitals. Found Object is working on a new documentary following the mental health jail diversion project in Miami that helps steer people with mental illness into treatment not jail. Check out our video addressing the criminalization of the mentally ill and stay tuned for more updates.

Should we be looking to soil specialists for solutions to climate change? A fascinating article in T: The New York Times Style Magazine, “Can Dirt Save the Earth?” examines how soil sequesters carbon. Similarly, we worked with VF Corporation to tell their story on their commitment to sustainability through soil science and carbon sequestration. Some of the VF brands and partners featured include The North Face, Wrangler and Fibershed. Check out the article and the video!

Meet Tommy Counihan. He’s a US Army Veteran, surfer and a mentor to other veterans. “The camaraderie and the sense of purpose that I was given by the military, those were things that defined me as a person. I have that sense back that I have purpose and fulfillment again. And I have learned that my purpose has changed to helping others and giving back.” This is a part of our work with Viacom’s Veterans Wellness Operation campaign. Check out the video below!

This week, we visited Drew University for a screening of our film, Kombit: The Cooperative, followed by a panel and discussion. Found Object documented the partnership of the Smallholder Farmers Alliance and Timberland, who worked with Haitian farmers to plant 5 million trees in 5 years. The project doubled farmer incomes and now functions without corporate sponsorship. Check out our videos of the project in its earlier stages on the Found Object website or YouTube and check out this article that provides an updated overview of the project. “Smallholder Farmers have a reason to smile in Haiti.”
