In the most recent Yoga for Skaters Newsletter, we kicked off a new series, Ask Ace where I, answer YOUR health, fitness, wellness and roller skate questions 💌.
As a Health and Wellness Coach, I work with clients everyday to identify the challenges they face when it comes to reaching their goals.
In this Ask Ace series, I am stoked to share tips and tricks to keep you motivated, build your confidence, and help you find a flexible mind for roller skating.
Our first question comes from :
“I feel like I’m stuck or have reached a plateau and I don’t know how to level up…sliding on rails is really scary again…some time ago I could do them pretty easily. Now it is scary again and I have no idea why. I just don’t know what to do. Have you ever felt anything like that?”
DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY! Thank you so much for this question 🙏🏼.
Here are five strategies for busting through roller skate skill plateaus and mental blocks:
1️⃣🛼 Progress isn’t linear. Revisit the skills you’ve already got. Building movement fluency aka muscle memory, and confidence on your skates IS PROGRESS!
2️⃣🛼Remember why you skate. In addition to growing your roller skate skills, roller skating has a lot of soft skills to teach as well. Plateaus and mental blocks are prime opportunities to reconnect to YOUR WHY.
3️⃣🛼Take a break with off-skates. This is usually my go-to because getting stronger off skates helps inspire me on skates. Wondering where to start with off-skates? I have an idea 😉
4️⃣🛼Try a new environment. Rediscover your roller skating by switching it up! Try a new part of the park, try a new trail, whatever you do, find THE FUN
5️⃣🛼Get inspired! Are there other sports you love, skaters who make you wanna get up and roll? Take inventory, bring what you need to hype yourself up and see what happens!
And lastly, says, “Have fun, be curious…it takes the pressure off!” 💙
