In November 2020, Rich was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer)—a rare and devastating disease, often without options for patients.
Through more than 50 procedures and 200+ days at Memorial Sloan Kettering, Rich faced this battle with grace, resilience, and gratitude. His strength, and the unwavering support of Bill and the MSK community, inspired all who knew him. 💚
Today, under the leadership of Dr. Jarnagin, MSK is launching the Richard L. Diver Research Endowed Fellowship Fund—an ambitious program to transform the future of bile duct cancer care. Every two years, this fellowship will fund a specialist dedicated to advancing research and patient care in hepatobiliary cancers—an area where progress is urgently needed.
👉 The reality is stark:
Cholangiocarcinoma is almost always diagnosed late.
Surgery is the only curative option, yet most patients are ineligible by diagnosis.
The 5-year survival rate is less than 5%.
But with research and investment, we can change this.
On October 6, 2025, we will host the Second Annual Richard L. Diver Golf Tournament & Cocktail Party in Wilmington, DE—united in honoring Rich’s legacy and fueling hope for families still waiting for options.
We’ve raised $500,000 so far, but we need to close a $1 million gap to fully endow this fellowship. Your leadership gift can:
✨ Launch and sustain this fellowship for years to come.
✨ Fund vital research where hope is most needed.
✨ Honor Rich by giving patients and families more time together.
This isn’t just a donation—it’s an investment in life, choice, and hope.
