Everyone loves to talk about healing from the land, but rarely do we speak about healing with the land. In honor of Black History Month, I want to acknowledge the deep injustice the land has endured alongside Black and Brown people since the dawn of colonization. Our stories are intertwined both stripped, exploited, and separated from what is sacred.

Western religion and consumerism have pushed us further from earth-based traditions, the most ancient forms of spirituality. But as we honour the ones before us we uncover the truth .The land is not just something to take from, but something to be in relationship with. Healing is not one-sided. It is reciprocity. It is listening. It is offering as much as we receive.

As I sit with this sweet ancient magnolia tree, I honor her wisdom. She cradles my living children in her branches, and she now holds the remains of my most recent spirit child. This is sacred exchange. This is remembering.

What are the pre-set conditions for softness?
Why are we afraid to be vulnerable?
Why don't we want our children soft? Why are we so afraid of a world we hate anyway?
Being the change I want to see in the world, by being soft and sweet and vocal and wild like the wind.
The ancestors are watching and the universe is listening.
