Friends -- Per CNN and according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, “members of the AAPI community are the least likely to seek help of any racial group. In 2019, the organization claims, only 23.3 percent of AAPI adults with mental illness were receiving treatment.”
Recent and ongoing increases in openly anti-Asian racism and violence highlight the urgency of resources for our communities. If you’re able, please consider donating to the following:
-- The National Asian American Pacific Islander Mental Health Association (www.naapimha.org), which includes a database of mental + behavioral health services for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders across the U.S.
-- The Asian Mental Health Collective (asianmhc.org) also offers a database of services and providers dedicated to making mental health services more accessible to the community.
If you know someone who might benefit from NAAPIMHA and / or AMHC offerings, please share their information. They are both outstanding organizations.
Love and support to our AAPI community.

In kindness to each other, and kindness to ourselves. — w...

Hello (and adjacent)!

Writing with an ONLINE training opportunity. I direct (and teach in) a one-year certificate program at the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center called Clinical Journeys. I love this program. It’s frankly what I wish had been available during my under-supervised internship years. For anyone interested in exploring training or simply wishing to stay sharp and supported during these unprecedented clinical times, Clinical Journeys is an excellent taster of eclectic, psychodynamic practice. And as of September, it's also available... everywhere!

Beginning this fall, we're expanding to offer two cohorts -- one NYC-based (which will also be remote in 2020), and one for everyone else. If you or someone you know have interest, we’d love to hear from you.

DETAILS:

* Three 8-week trimesters from September 2020 to June 2021
* Wednesday evenings, 6:30-9pm (ET)
* 60 CEs for NY social workers
* $600 tuition, per trimester ($1800 total)
* Master's degree or current enrollment in a master's program required
* Application deadline rolling until September 10
* Registration and more information available at www.PPSC.org/one-year-program

This one’s for the meditation / wellness folks about racism, complicity, and spiritual bypassing.

Light changed my life. He gave me my first Vedic mantra, and set me on a path for which I will be forever grateful. He’s also entirely right about this phenomenon. Please watch (speak... act...) — and follow (Light Watkins).

Friends and fellow teachers: I’ve seen some heart-breaking displays of emotion-shaming in our wellness communities these past days and weeks - to one another and to ourselves. Perhaps you’ve experienced same. If you are at peace in these trying times, please use your equilibrium to spread compassion. And if you are not at peace, I commend you on being human. We cannot control the uncontrollable by denying our feelings (or anyone else’s). We can, however, relieve our discomfort by allowing it. I know, it sounds contradictory. If your emotions feel overwhelming right now, you aren’t alone. In addition to the many resources we each practice, a therapist can help. Reach out for a referral. Love to you all.
