Texting in bed can cause a condition known as “text neck” due to poor posture and looking down at your cell phone for extended periods of time. How can you prevent text neck?

Hold your cell phone at eye level as much as possible. The same holds true for all screens—laptops and tablets should also be positioned so the screen is at eye level and you don't have to bend your head forward or look down to view it.

Take frequent breaks from your phone and laptop throughout the day. For example, set a timer or alarm that reminds you to get up and walk around every 20 to 30 minutes.

If you work in an office, make sure your screen is set up so that when you look at it you are looking forward, with your head positioned squarely in line with your shoulders and spine.

The bottom line is to avoid looking down with your head bent forward for extended periods throughout the day. Spend a whole day being mindful of your posture—is your head bent forward when you drive? When you watch TV? Any prolonged period when your head is looking down is a time when you are putting excessive strain on your neck. Feel like you’re suffering from text neck? Come see us for an evaluation and medical massage for relief! Book an appointment today!

Did you know that conventional household cleaning supplies contain toxic chemicals? Not only that, these chemicals are central nervous system disruptors, known carcinogens linked to cancer and birth defects, and common sources of allergies and skin conditions.

It’s true - check out the extensive warning labels or the Environmental Working Group website! Even though we don’t ingest cleaning supplies, we need to be mindful of their ingredients, because we are inhaling their fumes and fragrance.

Here’s what to look for when searching for non-toxic cleaning products for your family:
- Fully disclosed ingredient lists
- Phthalate-free
- Paraben-free
- Ammonia-free and chlorine-free (they produce toxic fumes, especially when combined)
- Fragrance-free or clearly labeled plant-derived fragrance (beware the lone “fragrance” term, which denotes hidden synthetic chemicals)
- Companies that have a mission to provide safe and environmentally-friendly products
- “A” or “B” grades on EWG’s product database

It’s not enough that a product advertises itself as “green” or “eco-friendly” because some aren’t exactly that. The best way is to examine the label. Feeling comfortable with the cleaning products you use around your family? Like this post!

How much water do you drink each day? Your answer might be 8 cups. Actually, the amount of water you should drink daily depends on your body weight! You should be consuming half your body weight in ounces of water. For example, if you weigh 120 pounds, you should drink 60 oz of water.

This recommendation covers fluids from water, other beverages and food. About 20% of daily fluid intake usually comes from food and the rest from drinks. Furthermore, depending on whether you exercise, the environment that you’re in, your overall health, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, your ideal water intake could be greater. Like this post if you’re going to start drinking more water today!
