⁣Shame is a social emotion that we feel when we’re vulnerable to judgement from others. We only feel shame when we agree with others’ negative judgements of us. In order to get rid of shame we have to change our self-beliefs first. If others do the same it’s just extra. 😊 💭 ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

⁣When we’re triggered it’s a sign we haven’t healed from something. Knowing our triggers is the first step to create an opportunity to grow by rising above them. Avoidance of triggers makes us feel better in the short term, but it stunts our growth in the long run. ❤️‍🩹 ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

6 out of every 10 gay men suffer from body dysmorphia. Many struggle with anxiety about their physical appearance, and because of this they avoid social events, and struggle with disordered eating and steroid use. They do this because they don’t think they’re enough unless they are “gym-fit”. ⁣It’s a topic of conversation I rarely hear spoken about in the psychological community. It’s an alarming issue a that needs to be addressed.

Most of us think that acceptance is the passive route, but it’s actually the exact opposite. The more we accept what’s out of our control, the less disturbed we are emotionally. The better we feel, the more agency we have over our actions. 💪🏼 🧠 ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Wishing you and your loved ones a very happy Thanksgiving! 🍽 🍁 🍂 It’s a great time to self-reflect on what we have to be thankful for. It’s much easier to focus our attention on what’s lacking in our life rather than what what’s going well. Lots to be grateful for if we know where to look 👀.

There’s still a big stigma for men to seek out therapy when we need it. We get told that we have to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and “man-up.” We often believe that expressing our emotions is “complaining” and that it’s better to suffer alone to avoid being a “burden”. Admitting we need help doesn’t make us weak. Learning better coping skills makes us more resilient than fragile. It’s ok to ask for help. Everyone has problems. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
