As prevalence and diagnosis rates of ADHD continue to rise, it has become one of the more well-recognized neurodevelopmental disorders. Despite this, certain symptoms are still overlooked and/or underrepresented in mainstream media. Here are some underrepresented ADHD symptoms that often get overlooked:

1. Perfectionism
2. Hyperfocus
3. Time Blindness
4. Poor Self-Image

Grief isn’t just losing someone… sometimes it’s realizing they were never who you thought they were💔Betrayal hits differently because you’re not just grieving the person - you’re grieving the version of yourself that felt safe, along with the memories and meaning you once believed in.
Watching the Summer House drama unfold is a reminder of how messy and layered betrayal can be 👀 What are your thoughts on the Summer scandal??🫢

Rejection takes character.
Boundaries take practice.

Neuroception is your nervous system’s ability to scan your environment and label cues and behaviors as safe, dangerous, or life-threatening. In response to this, a level of arousal is activated that is best suited for the circumstances. Essentially, your nervous system is trying to scan your environment and promote the best adaptive response.

You can have faulty neuroception or false alarms. We may perceive neutral cues as dangerous because they remind us of traumatic experiences from the past (e.g., a certain smell, rude behavior, loud noises). As a result, our arousal can either be too high or too low based on how our body falsely perceives the danger.

There are many common triggers for neurocepting danger, such as a history of physical and sexual abuse. Being sensitive to these triggers and having false alarms can affect our window of tolerance. The window of tolerance is the zone where we feel safe, at ease, socially engaged, and comfortable. This is the ideal place to be, but if you struggle with faulty neuroception, your window of tolerance is narrow.

In hyperarousal, we can feel super activated and overwhelmed. In hypoarousal, we can feel distant and disconnected. It’s important to monitor what triggers you to be in each state. Once you’re aware of what state you’re in and your trends, you can more effectively use skills to expand your window of tolerance.

Tolerance isn't weakness. It's one of the hardest things you
can practice -- and one of the most powerful.

We are living in one of the most polarized moments in modern
history. And the research is clear: it is literally making us
sick -- mentally, relationally, and as a society.

But here's what the science also shows us:

When tolerance goes up, polarization goes DOWN.
When people have real contact across difference, prejudice
DECREASES.
When we build our capacity to sit with discomfort, we become
harder to manipulate and harder to divide.

Swipe through for the full breakdown -- including what the
research actually says, where it gets complicated (yes, I kept
it real, and what tolerance has to do with every major social
change in movement in history.

This one is for anybody who's exhausted by the division, but
still wants to do something about it.

Save it. Share it. Start one conversation.

Dyscalculia is a neurodevelopmental learning disability that makes it difficult to process number-based information and math.

Dyscalculia in adulthood may involve general anxiety about having to perform calculations, difficulty managing time and money, leading to financial issues and missing important appointments/events, difficulty remembering important dates, passwords, and login information.

There is no “cure” for dyscalculia as it is a learning disability; however, there are ways that it can be managed, such as:
1. Obtaining proper accommodations at school/work
2. Psychotherapy to manage emotional symptoms related to dyscalculia
3. Utilizing apps and calendars to better manage your schedule, set reminders, and keep important appointments

If you need help managing difficulties with executive functioning, consider booking with one of our therapists. Click the link in bio for more information.
