EAP & Counseling Associates, PLLC provides counseling and related services to contracting companies and organziations in Cleveland, Lincoln and Gaston counties for employees and their family members living in the home. Each of our counselors has over 35 years of experience in the field.

We often find lists of things people need to do to maintain good physical health, mental health, and spiritual health. As good as those lists are, it is often as important to know as much about things one needs to avoid in life.

This is indeed a difficult and unsettling time for most of us and we are being asked to change our normal daily routines and adjust to protect ourselves and others. Just a word to consider: S T O P

S - Step back and take a look at what is going on around you. Take a deep breath and be still for a few moments. Consider "what is my situation and how am I at this moment"?

T - Think about what you have been doing up until now and about what you need to consider doing now. Are there things you can do to maintain control over your situation and your family's situation? Are there tasks you have promised yourself you would do "when you had the time" to do them?

O - Observe what others are doing. Take a look at what resources you have around you and what you can do to make your particular situation more satisfying and comfortable for you and your family.

P - PLAN, make a plan to DO some of the things you know will help you and those you love to maintain a healthy life, both physically and mentally at this point in time. Get started and encourage others in your family or circle to get involved.

A good way to "prioritize" your DO LIST is to arrange the options or ideas into THREE GROUPS:
A - Things that need to be done immediately.
B - Things that need to be done but can wait a short while until the more important things are done.
C - Things that you would like to do be are not so important and may not get done for a while.

NOW, start with the A LIST and check off each item as you (and others you are helping you) get them done. Don't be tempted to jump to List B before List A is done. But then move on to List B and then C if you still see those things are important.

Ultimately you will be able to maintain control of your life and things effecting the lives of your family and loved ones. The main thing, is to MAINTAIN - a good friend once told me and I have always believed that was some good advice. Maintain control or your life by choosing what you will do and how you will act and think. NO ONE can control your decisions unless you let them.
