Before 1993, women were largely excluded from clinical trials. Even today, we make up less than 40% of participants in most studies.

That one fact explains so much.

Why women’s pain is dismissed.
Why symptoms are brushed off.
Why we’re told, “It’s just hormones.”

In this week’s episode of The Healing Catalyst, I sit down with award-winning health journalist Meghan Rabbitt—whose work you may know from Maria Shriver and The Sunday Paper—to talk about what happens when women finally have the information to advocate for themselves.

This conversation is about becoming the CEO of your own health.

Not by doing more—but by understanding the system, preparing for medical visits, and trusting what your body has been telling you all along.

If you’ve ever left a doctor’s office feeling unseen or unheard, this episode is for you. Your symptoms aren’t imaginary. And you deserve care that actually sees you. 💛

What if eating “right” in midlife isn’t about restriction—but reconnection?

Reconnection to your body.
To your culture.
To food as nourishment—not punishment.

Nationally recognized dietitian Maya Feller Nutrition and I explore how food can support your hormones, heart, and health through perimenopause and menopause.

We unpack:
🍽️ What actually helps with hot flashes, mood swings, and visceral fat

🧬 The real science behind midlife metabolism—and how to support it

🦴 How to maintain bone + muscle health (especially on GLP-1 meds)

🌾 Why culturally rooted foods are medicine—not “cheats”

Whether you're going through these changes naturally or with support from medication, this conversation offers clarity and compassion—without the wellness dogma.

Let’s stop fearing food—and start using it to feel good, for life. 💛

You don’t have to earn your worth through exhaustion.

🧠 How your nervous system shapes your work habits

🌿 Simple tools to regulate stress and protect your energy

💫 Why redefining success might be the bravest thing you ever do

Today is 💛

And I want you to remember: your mental health matters.

In Ayurveda, mental health isn’t treated as separate from physical health—because it’s all deeply connected. Practices like yoga and breathwork aren’t just for the body—they’re tools to balance the mind, too.

If you’ve been feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or ungrounded lately, here are 5 Ayurvedic practices that can help you reconnect with yourself and support your mental well-being:

1. Breathe deeply

2. Ground your body with movement or time in nature

3. Try abhyanga (self-massage) for calming your nervous system

4. Eat foods that nourish your digestion—and your mood

5. Connect with others to feel seen, safe, and supported

🌿 Want to learn more about how these practices work—and how to try them? I’ve shared more in my blog post, link in the comments!

You don’t have to hustle to prove your strength. And you don’t have to burn out to earn your rest. You can move gently and still get where you’re going. 💛

That’s the reminder Tara Stiles offers in our newest episode of The Healing Catalyst.

When we soften—physically, mentally, emotionally—something shifts:

🧘‍♀️ Our nervous system relaxes
🧠 Our mind clears
💓 Our heart opens

In Episode 161, we talk about what “Living Softly” really means in a world that rewards overwork.

Because softness isn’t weakness. It’s strength in a form we don’t celebrate enough.

As Tara puts it:
“I still want to get things done… but I want to feel good in the process.”

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, this conversation is the breath of fresh air you didn’t know you needed.

Did you know your heart health impacts your whole body?

A healthy cardiovascular system supports vision and hearing, lung and brain function, and muscle strength? It may also reduce your risk for chronic disease, dementia, and diabetes.

Ayurveda has always known that the heart is your body’s energetic hub.

Want to help your heart? Try this:

→ prioritize good sleep
→ move your body regularly
→ manage cholesterol and blood sugar
→ eat nutritious meals

Your whole body will thank you, especially as you age. 💛

Are you running on empty?

The late-night scroll. The unanswered emails. The thoughts that won’t stop looping. You crawl into bed, but true rest still escapes you.

You’re not alone—50 to 70 million Americans aren’t getting enough sleep.

The cost? Foggy mornings. Weakened immunity. A nervous system that never fully resets.

Ayurveda has long taught that sleep is one of the three pillars of health. Without it, balance slips away.

This week, make bedtime a ritual: dim the lights, put the phone away, sip a warm tea, breathe deeply.

🌙 How many hours of sleep do you usually get? Share in the comments—we’d love to hear.

Hot flashes aren’t the only sign of perimenopause.

If no one told you it could also look like:

🔉 Ringing in your ears
🔥 A burning tongue
🌙 Trouble sleeping
🧠 Mood swings out of nowhere
💇 Thinner, drier hair

Even as a physician, I wasn’t taught how deeply perimenopause can affect every part of the body. And when it came up in my group chat of college friends? Every woman in there said, “Why didn’t anyone tell us this?”

That’s exactly why I invited Dr. Jila Senemar, an OB-GYN and menopause expert, to join me on The Healing Catalyst Podcast to unpack what’s really happening—and what we can do about it. I met her at a screening of M Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause, a must-watch film about this stage of life.

Did you know how fast you walk could predict how well you age?

A study from JAMA Network Open found that slower walking speed in midlife is linked to faster aging, smaller brain volume, and weaker muscles.

In Ayurveda, movement is how we keep prana—our vital life force—flowing. It nourishes the body, clears the mind, and supports longevity.

Here are 3 simple ways to bring more mindful movement into your life:

→ Take a short walk after meals
→ Move in ways that feel good (not punishing!)
→ Build movement into your daily routine—small steps add up

Let’s take care of our future selves, one step at a time. 💛 What’s your favorite way to move your body?

Do you rush your meals without even realizing it?

If you’re eating on the go or while scrolling through your phone, you might be missing the signals your body’s trying to send you.

When you slow down at mealtime, amazing things happen:
→ Your digestion improves
→ You feel full faster
→ Your stress levels drop

And it doesn’t need to be a big overhaul—just a few simple shifts:
🎶 Play calm music
🍽️ Put your fork down between bites
🧘‍♀️ Chew slowly and take a breath

Ayurveda has always taught that food is more than fuel—it’s nourishment. And a peaceful, beautiful setting supports your body’s ability to receive it.

Save this as a reminder. And tell us in the comments—what helps you slow down and enjoy your meals?

“I felt a chemical shift.”

That’s how Andréa Bendewald described her first women’s circle—and the science backs her up:

🧠 Oxytocin rises

🌪️ Cortisol drops

Being truly seen and supported by other women changes us—mentally, emotionally, and physically. These spaces are healing because they offer something rare: a reversal of roles. A place where *women* are nurtured and held.

As Andréa said so beautifully:

“Circles do for women what women do for everyone else.”

💛 We all deserve that kind of support.

Do you have a space like this in your life? I’d love to hear.

You can listen to my full conversation with Andréa Bendewald in Episode 157 of The Healing Catalyst. Find the link in the comments.
