In 1971, at the annual FASEB meeting, flyers were posted inviting women scientists to a champagne mixer and meeting to encourage the exchange of ideas and solutions to overcoming job discrimination, lower pay, and professional isolation. Those 27 women who took the initiative to make science a better place for women founded the Association for Women in Science (AWIS), today's premiere leadership organization advocating the interests of women in science and technology. For nearly 40 years, the Association for Women in Science has fought for equity and career advancement for women – from the bench to the board room. We unite women through our nationwide network of chapters and partnerships with aligned professional organizations. Our success is dependent upon the diversity of our members, our corporate and institutional partners and our sponsors -- all of whom are committed to the advancement of women's leadership in STEM. AWIS New York Metropolitan is growing fast and volunteers have the chance to develop and implement new events and programs! Contact us at metronyawis@gmail.com

ISMMS-KiiLN Postdoctoral Entrepreneurship Award

Starting this year, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS), together with Keystone for Incubating Innovation in Life sciences Network (KiiLN), will present the ISMMS-KiiLN Postdoctoral Entrepreneurship Award at the Annual Innovation Awards Ceremony. This newly established award will become an annual prize to honor postdoctoral entrepreneurs at the SINAInnovations conference. Established in 2019 through a generous gift from the co-founders of KiiLN (five former ISMMS postdocs), this award will recognize postdoctoral fellows who co-found or lead companies to address unmet needs in life sciences including but not limited to Basic Science, Translational Science, and Clinical Care Delivery. The award is designed to highlight entrepreneurial endeavors of ISMMS postdoctoral fellows who take their discoveries beyond the bench by creating diagnostics, devices, therapeutic products, etc.

Award Criteria:

You are eligible to apply if you

1. Are a current or former ISMMS postdoctoral fellow; or have a team that includes at least one ISMMS postdoctoral fellow as co-founder or C-suite executive AND

2. Have formed a company (e.g. startup or non-profit organization) addressing an unmet need, or have commercialized an invention, or have developed a technology, etc.
