When we look back at times when you overcame a stressful or even temporarily debilitating situation, you’ll conclude that each time your feelings about the situation had colored perception. You were most likely discouraged, frustrated, and scared. But when you reverse your assumptions, you’ll eventually look at the situations differently. Instead of accepting any self-imposed limitations it starts with nothing more than saying, “I will succeed”. This begins the positive process of putting things together. This simple process really works and is one that can help you take control of a stress causing problem more easily that you can imagine. 212-308-1666 robertschachter.com

Since you are faced with a challenge, it’s time to identify your assumptions about your problem. This step is the key. Our assumptions are the both the result of how we see the possibilities, and they also shape our actions in response. By listing your assumptions, you know what you are up against. Assumptions provide the outside boundary of perceived possibility. They are limiters.
By reversing those assumptions, you free yourself from the limitation and open your mind to possibility. By determining how you can make the reversals happen, you put together your plans of action. If you want a demonstration of the correct way to do this contact my office. 212-308-1666 robertschachter.com

ASK SO WHAT.

This line of inquiry addresses the implications of the situation you find yourself in.

- Start by identifying the situation that is stressful.

- State it as a problem to be solved.

- Ask “So What?”

- Take that answer and ask, “So What?” again.

- Repeat this three more times.

The awesome payoff to these steps is soon coming! 212-308-1666 robertschachter.com

ASK WHY. Although it may sound simplistic, I have an exercise for you that digs into the meaning of the problem that makes it stressful. Proceeding through the tunnel of “whys” often gives you a different insight into a solution.
1. START by identifying the situation that is stressful.
2. STATE it as a problem to be solved.
3. DETERMINE what is problematic.
4. ASK WHY it is a problem.
Take that answer and ask why again.
Repeat this three more times.
This exercise explores the depth of the problem and demonstrates aspects of its effects. I’m here to help. 212-308-1666 robertschachter.com

Part -2 As you apply these steps to a problem, you will find that you have opened new pathways to solving it and changing the situation. You need to get to the basic core of it by digging down. My next post will provide a useful technique to understand the depth by using the “4 Whys”. 212-308-1666 robertschachter.com

Part 1 -The questions shown in these images will give you the framework to clarify your thinking. These questions allow you to isolate factors of the problem. This puts you into an active position to change it. You now have an idea of the scope and depth of the problem. The next step is to refine it further. By reducing it to its basic properties, you can start seeing how it works and gain insight into what you might do about it. 212-308-1666 robertschachter.com

Let’s continue with the next step in our stress relief solution protocol... Step 2. DEFINE THE PROBLEM This action is not just a simple description. It’s not about what you think the problem is, rather you need to understand the essential nature of the problem and why there is a problem. Write down the specific elements of the problem.

The idea here is that you have to examine it from perspectives you have not thought of yet. The basics of problem definition are determining what is the problem, why it is a problem and what you can do about it. My next post will give you a framework to help clarify your thinking on this: 212-308-1666 robertschachter.com

As promised, I’ll now be sharing a number of protocols you can start following today. When you use them, you may find that your situation is no longer stressful or is at least solvable. SOLVING THE PROBLEM Step 1: Assume that there is a solution to your problem, but you just haven’t found it yet. Before a baseball player hits the ball, he has to get into position. Before a tennis player returns a serve, she gets into a ready position. Before you can solve a problem, you must be in position as well. To be in the position to find a solution, you must assume that there is a solution that you have not yet thought of. This puts you into an active challenging position as opposed to an accepting one. Being in an active problem solving state of mind opens your mind to possibilities. More steps to come! 212-308-1666 robertschachter.com

As we enjoy the long weekend and gather with loved ones, let's take a moment to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day. It's a time to honor the fallen soldiers who valiantly defended our nation. Their sacrifice ensures that we can live in a land of peace, opportunity, and democracy. May their memory be a guiding light for us all. 🌟🇺🇸

Most of the time, I will bet that when you are under stress, you don’t say, “let me find the way out of this situation.” You simply feel under stress and assume that there is nothing you can do. “If I knew what to do about this problem, I wouldn’t have the problem”. Right? Most people have a limited repertoire of skills, and they go into a stress reaction without considering how to change the situation. In my very next post I’ll begin sharing the tactics and protocols you can use to immediately manage the stressors. 212-308-1666 robertschachter.com

You usually experience stress because there is a problem or there is going to be a problem. Most books on stress speak about ways of relaxing your body’s reaction to the stress. This approach is very important and useful, but I believe that long before you get to relaxing, you need to try to change the situation that is causing the stress. And there are specific Problem Solving Protocols you can follow to achieve this. I’ll be sharing these with you in upcoming posts! 212-308-1666 robertschachter.com
