"…you are about to take your power back."

I’m so grateful to Wendy Goodall McDonald M.D. for this kind review of The Empowered Hysterectomy. Those words capture exactly what I hoped this book would give women: the confidence to walk into these conversations feeling informed, supported, and powerful.

This book was written to remind women that they are not alone in this journey. To know it resonates with both readers and physicians is such an honor.

To every woman facing this decision, please remember that your voice matters, your choices matter, and your power is still yours. 💜

Ladies, let’s be real, when something feels “off” down there, it can be hard to know what’s going on. And the guessing game? Stressful. 😩

UTI or yeast infection? Here’s how to tell the difference 👇

👉Yeast infection = itching, thick discharge, swelling, burning, discomfort during s*x or urination.

👉 UTI = burning when you p*e, constant urge to go, cloudy or smelly urine, pelvic pressure, sometimes blood.

“When the women of the family are unwell, the whole community suffers.”

This truth shaped my path, and it’s the heart of The Empowered Hysterectomy.

As an OB-GYN and a Black woman raised by generations of strong, resilient women, I’ve seen firsthand how pain, especially reproductive pain, is too often dismissed, minimized, or rushed into silence.

This book isn’t just about surgery. It’s about reclaiming our bodies, our voices, and our right to informed, compassionate care. It’s for every woman who’s been told to “just take it out” without understanding her options. For every patient who’s felt rushed, ignored, or unheard.

I wrote this book to say: you deserve more. More information. More respect. More space to choose what’s best for you.

Let’s stop normalizing pain. Let’s stop confusing compliance with consent. Let’s start honoring the power, complexity, and brilliance of the female body on our terms.

📖 The Empowered Hysterectomy is available now. Let’s take our power back together. https://lnkd.in/eRDGdSnp

Learning about risk factors for your cardiovascular risk factors during pregnancy can be important for. Ask your doctor if you have these or any other risk factors, and if adding a cardiologist to your healthcare team would be of benefit to you.

Pap smears are an integral part of Women's Health and we know they save lives.

Things you should know about your pap
👉🏾 You should have a pap every 3 to 5 years. Some people may have it more frequently if you have a history of abnormal paps.

👉🏾Try to avoid jelly, l**e and spermicides at least two days before the procedure, the heaviest part of your period, and semen(just my personal opinion 🥴)

👉🏾 You can always ask for a smaller speculum.

👉🏾 An abnormal pap does not mean you have cervical cancer

Thank you for tapping me for this important message.

I don't often post about my patients but it has been a lovely ride with and family!

Over the years this family has been a great champion of including (but not limited to😉) IT, social media management, business planning, feeding the office when we were busy caring for patients, and much more.

Congratulations and your newest family member! ❤️❤️

I have the best patients!!

Avoiding "Trigger Warning" Posts

You will likely see a lot of Trigger Warning posts on your timeline this week. It basically involves a beyond terrible OB case that is in the media.

Now, I'm not saying you don't deserve to know details, that the family shouldn't share their story (the absolutely should) but I wanted to just encourage you to pause before engaging in "trigger warning" posts, especially as a pregnant person.

When you are expecting or certainly near delivery the level of anxiety can be out of control.

You worry about pain, the baby , csection, tearing , family, getting to the hospital, breaking your water, showing up in time for an epidural, the list goes on and on.

Please-just pause. Slow down.

Breathe and repeat after me.

I am safe and loved.
I am protected
My family is with me
My birthing team hears me
My body is capable
I release my fear.
My body is powerful
My mind is clear
I am empowered

👉🏾Be mindful that your timeline isn't provoking your anxiety
👉🏾Spend time doing activities that make you happy
👉🏾Seek therapy as an outlet for your concerns

Wishing you peace and love!

Our heart broke this week after learning the (limited) details of another maternal death. was reported dead over a month ago and a recently released autopsy suggests the death was likely related to eclampsia-a less common hypertensive disease in pregnancy hallmarked by elevated blood pressure and seizures.

Just to level set-Pregnancy is an amazing and wonderful adventure. Most people will have no issues and not face any complication. I pray for this for all of you.

On the flip side...pregnancy can be unpredictable and dangerous.

Preeclampsia (common) and eclampsia (rare) are hypertensive disorders that often catch patients off guard.

Preeclampsia:
Blood pressure >140/90, headaches, visual changes, chest pain, swelling, protein in the urine.

Eclampsia: Above with higher blood pressures and seizures.

Extreme blood pressures can also cause stroke, respiratory depression, coma, loss of pregnancy and death.

Know your risk:
🤰🏾 Black women are 60% more likely to have PreE
🤰🏾History of Hypertension
🤰🏾PreEclampsia in other pregnancies or family history of PreEclampsia
🤰🏾Older age
🤰🏾In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
🤰🏾Obesity

Action Items:
👉🏾Discuss your risk for PreE with your doctor or midwife
👉🏾Have a reliable arm blood pressure monitor-check it against the one in your doctors office
👉🏾Don't miss visits, especially in the third trimester which is when we often catch Preeclampsia
👉🏾Understand that delivery is often needed to protect you and your baby
👉🏾Ask if you should be on aspirin to help reduce your risk if pre-eclampsia before 37 weeks
👉🏾 Dont forget about Postpartum Preeclampsia, which can happen six weeks after delivery
👉🏾Build a team of specialists and birth workers that know you

Thanks for the informational discussion
