The summer news you’ve ALL been waiting for… 2026 MAMA PROJECT CHOREOGRAPHER APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN‼️

What is the MaMa Project?

The MaMa Project is a satellite dance project of Orchesis, Columbia University’s largest dance group. It is an artistic outlet for a chosen choreographer(s) to develop their creative process by creating a thematic evening-length show. This two-semester commitment is an opportunity for dancers and choreographers to work within a smaller, intimate group. Collaboratively, the group creates a new work through process-based choreographic methods that allow for originality, catharsis, and creativity!

Deadline: Friday, August 1st @ 11:59PM EST

And last but definitely not least😍❤️🥰…Victoria loves Orchesis and had so much fun making a piece this semester! She’s a CC sophomore majoring in dance and computer science who loves to choreograph as much as possible. She is involved in so many dance clubs including Untapped, CoLab, and Columbia Ballet Collaborative. You can also find her working as assistant lighting designer on this year’s Varsity Show! She hopes you’ll all C’mon over and enjoy the show–don’t panic! (at the disco) because it’s going to be so much fun(.)!

And now the stunning gorgeous amazing Sanya!! Sanya can’t wait to see her dancers pop it like a pea (yeah) EDAMAME😌 this semester. This senior at Barnard is a physics major and math/anthro minor who is so super excited to choreograph for the first time ever in her Orchy career!!! Sanya’s zest for Orchesis is eclipsed only slightly by her research on cosmic jets from black holes, role as peer educator at SVR, and being an intro physics TA. Even so, seeing as she knows all of Edamame front to back back to front, she hopes the audience is as as she and her cast are🫛🫛

Upcoming…the most amazing Pia!!! Majoring in Politcal Ecology and Human Rights, and minoring in Italian, Pia is a senior at Barnard who 💖Orchesis. Besides spamming the dance’s groupchat, you can usually find her at Access Barnard where she works as a Global Ambassador and Peer Mentor. She’s also president of Her Campus, part of Barnard’s Senior Council, and volunteers by teaching English as a Second Language to middle schoolers. Most importantly, though, she’s passionate about singing out loud (terribly, of course), the color blue, and squirrels 🩵🐿️🌎🌈 🌱

Next up is our tremendously amazing Mei!! Mei is happy as a clam to choreograph for her Orchy people once again! This Barnard junior is majoring in Psychology and Dance. If she’s not giving her all to Orchesis both on and off-stage ( ), she is a social work intern in NYC public schools. She loves dining hall yap sessions, late evening naps, and listening to Lorde’s Melodrama on shuffle AND loop. Channeling her obsession, her dancers will (green) light up the stage!

Now…our beautiful team 😻😻Lilian & Priscilla are a lovely sophomore duo who’ve been sharing the Orchy love since day one! Lilian is an Applied Math and Anthropology major in CC, and Priscilla is a Computer Science major and Dance minor in SEAS—brains and body-ody-ody. They bonded over jazz, hip hop, and the simple joy of dancing for fun, whether in class, rehearsal, or just goofing off together. When they’re not in the studio, you can catch them out in the city taking cute pics, eating good food, and living their best lives. This is their first time choreographing (cue the tears 🥲) and they’re bringing all the energy to celebrate girl power, confidence, and friendship. From sparkle to sass, silver to slay, they can’t wait to share this piece with you. Get ready to serve. 💅💃✨

Upcoming next, our exquisite talented Kira!!! Kira could literally not be more excited or enthusiastic to bring you a new jazzy piece this semester! This is her third time choreographing for Orchesis, and she’s pretty sure this is her best work yet! Kira is a Junior at Barnard, studying Political Science with a minor in philosophy. When she’s not dancing with Orchy, or talking about her home state of New Hampshire, you can find Kira in Columbia Policy Institute, WinkMe, and as an RA in the Barnard Quad. She is absolutely thrilled to see her lovely cast on stage, and is so excited for another amazing Orchy show!

Next up is Kate 😍😍 Kate is so so thrilled that this is her first time choreographing for Orchesis!! A first year at Barnard from Baltimore MD, she’s majoring in urban studies and sustainability and minoring in human rights. Outside of Orchesis, you can find her dancing around with her friends and in classes at barnard, yapping about her phenomenal taste in music, going on rollerskating adventures, consuming too much caffeine, and frolicking in riverside park! Kate can’t wait to SEA the audience watch her cast make a big WAVE on stage 🌊🌊🌊!

Abby & Haley are first and foremost BARBZ but secondly, seniors at Barnard who love Orchesis. Abby is a Dance and History major who is passionate about trees, frogs, and having fun. Haley is a Psychology major who enjoys monkeys and a Liz’s chai. Between the two of them, they have choreographed nine pieces for Orchesis, and cannot wait to end with a bang with Nicki Minorchesis! In the wise words of Nicki Minaj, “This one is for my b*tches with a fat a** in the f*cking club.”

Charlilla is so excited to be returning as an iconic choreographic duo this semester! Charlotte and Alillia are both Barnard juniors double majoring in Dance and a STEM. When they’re not dancing for orchesis or taking dance department classes, you can find them grabbing a snack in Liz’s or yapping in the Barnard Store. They love throwing a themed party and giggling about reality tv! Don’t hold your breath, but Charlillia loved choreographing this semester and can’t wait to dance with you all again!

Carina and Allison have worked sleepless nights this semester to create something chaotically epic. Carina, a third time choreographer, bonded with Allison after throwing her around in her piece last semester (you had to be there). Carina is a senior at Barnard studying Neuroscience, and when she is not dancing, she is deep in conducting EEG tests and agonizing over Python for her thesis. You’ll also find her regularly overdosing on milk tea and fruit slushies. Allison, a junior in SEAS studying Earth and Environmental Engineering, spends most of her time obsessing over spreadsheets for not just Ghost Town but also classes, clubs, and everything else. She devotes the remainder of her time to mastering the fine art of Sweet Treat Rationalization. This dancing duo has been each other’s late-night choreography b***y calls all around Lerner, and they’re excited to be making waves while turning Ghost Town into a metropolis of movement!
