We are excited to welcome Dr. Janet Abrams, Board-Certified Gynecologist, to Cohen Medical Practice. Beginning next Monday, Dr. Abrams will be seeing patients at our Queens location (now open 5 days a week!). With more than 20 years of experience in women’s health, she brings compassionate expertise in preventative care, family planning, breast and cervical health, fibroid management, and more.

Dr. Abrams completed her residency in New York, where she served as Chief Resident at Flushing Hospital Medical Center, and has since held academic appointments at NYU Langone Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospital.

Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), she is fluent in English and Russian and deeply committed to helping women feel supported, understood, and empowered in their care.

Uterine fibroids, also called myomas, are noncancerous growths that develop in or on the uterus. They are one of the most common causes of abnormal uterine bleeding and, in rare cases, may also contribute to pelvic organ prolapse.

While it isn’t possible to know exactly who will develop fibroids or when, research shows that excess estrogen and progesterone play a key role in their growth. Both genetic and hormonal factors can increase the likelihood of developing fibroids. Common risk factors include pregnancy, being overweight, and being over the age of 30.
