Like many young people living with ulcerative colitis, Clara faced a difficult journey of chronic illness, hospitalizations, and surgeries that disrupted her high school life.

Struggling with severe abdominal pain, fatigue, and complications from her j-pouch, Clara's condition required multiple procedures and careful management.

When our very own Colon and Re**al Surgeon, Dr. Schwartzberg stepped in he guided her through corrective surgery, ultimately restoring her health and giving her a chance to live life comfortably again.

Thanks to his skill and compassion, Clara finished in the top 5% of her class, played lacrosse her senior season, and is now thriving in Auburn University’s honors pre-nursing program!

Together with Clara and her family, we’re grateful to Dr. Schwartzberg for putting her back on the path to a full, active life.

Bailey Perry (mom) and Dante Cocchiarella (dad) were thrilled to welcome their "New Year’s miracle.” Like her daughter, Perry was also born at NSUH, a coincidence she likened to the Lion King’s "circle of life," describing Rocky's birth as their "Lion King moment.”

This milestone reflects continued progress in advancing comprehensive transplant services. Expanding access to pancreas transplantation brings new hope and options to patients across Long Island and beyond.

A major milestone for transplant care on Long Island.

Northwell Health has received approval to launch Long Island’s first adult pancreas transplant program—based at the Northwell Transplant Institute at North Shore University Hospital. This new program expands access to life-saving care for patients across greater New York and southern Connecticut.

With this addition, North Shore University Hospital becomes one of just 59 adult transplant centers nationwide offering heart, kidney, liver, lung and pancreas transplants under one roof—bringing highly coordinated, world-class care to those who need it most.

This program represents a meaningful step forward in improving access, outcomes and quality of life for transplant patients in our communities.
