Hey Everyone!
I haven't posted since the end of December! It feels like forever ago. Since then, we welcomed our sweet baby Sebastian Arthur on Jan 31st, my daughter started Taekwondo, and I've been babymooning with my little man - loving on him, getting to know him, and healing from my c-section. I'm happy to say that we are all doing well and I'm ready to emerge from my cocoon of postpardum bliss and back into connecting with the rest of the world on all things ORGANIZATION!!
First let's discuss the KonMari movement!! I'm a fan of Marie Kondo's joy sparking approach and filing system for our belongings. I implement this with my clients wherever possible and it's been very successful and adoptable. Where I get stuck with KonMari is her methodology for tackling everything all in one go. I've found this approach, for me and my clients, challenging. Particularly in cases where hording is present or if a client has acute anxiety about their space. I've found goal setting and tackling in bits to be more palitable to them. Knowing it's ok if you can't finish your bedroom in 2 sessions - just keep chipping away at the clutter - is a relief to them. There's so much more to be said about the wonders and conversations around MK, but for now let's move on to what BHO has been doing....
Introducing (drum roll please) - the chaos that is the current state of my daughters room. Toys are a pain point for MANY MANY parents. It's one of the primary concerns brought to me "how do we manage all the toys everywhere"?! I believe organizing is evolutionary - it's ever changing. We may complete a project and our room looks a certain way, only to find a need to change that system 4-5 months down the line. THAT IS OK! You know what else is ok - when organizing, you'd be hard pressed to keep a room tidy as you are in the thick of decluttering. Hence the pictures I've attached here. I started this project of clearing out her shelves because we plan to remove them in order to move a crib in here very soon. I'd also like to paint the walls (the yellow has been a pain in my eyes since I finished the last coat more than 3 years ago!) I have a plan. I know the room won't always look like this, and yet it gives me anxiety looking at. Part of me feels embarassed to share it with you, but I feel it's important because I want YOU to see the realities of what a work in progress for organization can look like. Because I have a newborn at home, and a 5yo, projects get started, and stopped, frequently. THAT IS OK! People tend to think my home is like a magazine or staged for perfect organization at all times, but that's not true. Yes, I've mastered organization in many areas of my home, but certainly not all, and there's always room for improvement. That said, what will soon become the KIDS room (still feels novel to say the word kid as a plural) is a work in progress that I look forward to completing.
